Behind the Meerkat Cabin, late morning through lunch

Isabel didn't get to bed till late and didn't get to sleep until even later. She was too busy replaying the evening in her mind and smiling at the memory. Thursdays were workshop free, so she slept in late and then brought her blanket out to lie in shade of the trees behind the Meerkat cabin. The jug of iced tea is cold, her book is incredibly entertaining in that cheesy, this is entirely not plausible way and overall, life is good.

"Yes, it's almost as if people need that struggle to occupy themselves," he says. "It's...depressing to think that way. And, after what I've seen, it's very hard to picture an idyllic world."

"What have you seen?" Isabel asked quietly.

"Let's say one and a half non-dates." Snickering, Jack lay back on the blanket. "And you're right, I'm not the type for epic romance." He folded his arms behind his head and looked up at her with a grin. "But as long as you still love me, I'm satisfied."

"Hm. Dragons. A whole stadium of spectators sent fleeing due to dark wizards. Dementors," he says and shivers a little at that last word.

Isabel picked up on the shiver. "What are they? They don't sound fuzzy and cuddly."

"Where I come from, there's a place called Azkaban. It's a prison for witches and wizards. The dementors are it's guards and they make the place horrible. They were on Hogwarts grounds almost a year ago when there was the possibility of an escapee from Azkaban being on the property. And they're just...scary. If they catch you, they apparently suck out your soul."

"They sound absolutely horrible," Isabel frowned. "Like something from a horror movie. And they were at your school?"

"It was...supposed to be a safety measure," Cedric replies and he doesn't even want to remember seeing those things flying around Hogwarts. "For the safety of the students. I think they caused more panic than anything."

"Ah." Parker took another sip of iced tea, and pushed up her sunglasses. "I'm more sorry I never got to meet Alex, then."

Isabel shook her head. "Fine, catch me on a technicality. I suppose you do have to finish the first drink for it to count as a date. I don't think I managed that on Friday." Resting her hand on his head, she smiled softly. "I do."

"He was a good guy. He had a way of looking at me, of making me feel special." She smiled, "Greg looks at me like that."

"That's not what I meant. Anytime you wake up with another person, it counts as a full date, or full non-date." Jack smiled up at her, warm and happy. "Our first non-date was the half-a-non-date I was talking about. I didn't show you the best of times, but I'm glad you were there." He closed his eyes as her hand settled on his head, and rested his cheek against her hip.

"Did you know Parker bequeathed me to you?" he asked with apparent randomness.

Parker thought about the way Jarod looked at her sometimes, and smirked. Okay, sometimes he looked at her like she was special, too. But thinking about that was sometimes a little too scary. "I look forward to watching this unfold with interest. Except not the scary kind. Just the yay-Isabel-has-a-guy, kind."

"Good," Xander echoed, smiling. "You deserve some really good."

Isabel laughed. "I'll be sure to make you some popocorn."

"Don't worry about that. You made me laugh. That was enough for me," she smiled. "Besides, you more then made up for anything on Friday night. And the waking up part was nice." Isabel drew her knees up and rested her chin on them. "I've never..." she started and then shrugged, blushing lightly. "I didn't, no."

"It sounds like it," Isabel said, rolling her eyes. "You have to wonder about whoever thought up that safety measure. There are no dementors here though. At least as far as I've seen or heard. I hope that makes you feel better."

"The waking up part was nice," he said softly, hearing the words she left unspoken but saying nothing, then chuckled. "I'll admit I was a bit worried I'd wake up green or pink or sailing out the window."

Jack opened his eyes when Isabel moved, sitting up and facing her. "She did. Those were her exact words in fact. She and Jarod got together, and she didn't need me anymore. So she gave me to you."

"Nah... I remembered everything in vivid detail," she chuckled. "You didn't do a thing that would make me turn you green or toss you from the window."

"She did, did she?" Isabel smiled and reached out to catch Jack's hand. "I guess this means I need to look out for you, doesn't it?"

"I was hoping you'd feel that way. I figured it was worth the risk, though." Jack twined his fingers with hers. "And you already do. You've been looking out for me since I got back." He met her eyes with a small smile. "Parker usually knows what she's doing."

"No, here just has snow monsters. And students turning into children," he says but smiles. "After Hogwarts, a lot of this is easier to take."

"Parker's a smart woman," she said, giving his hand a squeeze. "We'll look out for each other, how's that sound?"

"And rampaging red crayons, laundry machines that steal your while you're wearing them as payment for services, or random slime attacks," Isabel added with a grin. "We have the weirdness but nine times out of ten it results in hilarity or embarassment instead of something really bad."

Jack looked away, then back, and if it had been anyone other than Jack the word you would have used to describe him was bashful.

But it was Jack, so you wouldn't.

"That sounds good, Isabel," he said, and kissed her hand. "That sounds really good."

"An interesting change for me, that's for sure." With another smile, he says. "Isabel, a pleasure to talk to you. I should start heading towards my workshop but I'm sure I'll see you tomorrow."
