Behind the Meerkat Cabin, late morning through lunch

Isabel didn't get to bed till late and didn't get to sleep until even later. She was too busy replaying the evening in her mind and smiling at the memory. Thursdays were workshop free, so she slept in late and then brought her blanket out to lie in shade of the trees behind the Meerkat cabin. The jug of iced tea is cold, her book is incredibly entertaining in that cheesy, this is entirely not plausible way and overall, life is good.

[Feel free to interrupt!]

"Yeah, but who'd dare try to kick Aeryn out of anyplace?" Xander snickered.

"Workshop's going fine, I think. Nobody's complained yet, and they're all actually playing along and getting the idea, it seems like. 'Course it helps that I keep bribing 'em. Last week was doughnuts; this week was t-shirts."

"Not me," she admitted. "I just hope the prank war stays on the level of fun. It has so far but I worry. I think that's why I'll be glad to get back to the dorms."

"Bribery always works. I know I haven't signed up for it, but can I crash one week? Please?"

Xander dropped down onto the grass, then nodded. "Feel free to crash anytime. Roomies always welcome."

"Gotta say the Stickbug/Meerkat war is funny as all hell for those of us not actually participating," he added. Xander glanced at her and grinned. "So how did your date with stick-boy actually go? Epic? Star-crossed? Sand in unfortunate places?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
She leaned over to bump Xander's shoulder. "Yay roomies!"

"It's been pretty funny even as a participant. Especially when you're waiting to see what happens next. Not that I'm waiting for anything," she said quickly. "The date was very nice. I really had a good time."

"Yuh-huh." Xander narrowed his eyes in amusement. "So noted. So I shouldn't be on the lookout for Stickbug guys who suddenly have tails, or anything."

He crossed his legs and sat indian-style. "I wondered if maybe wee Greggie was interested - he was all 'Meerkats are meeeeeen oh em gee -- except Isabel.' "

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Isabel snickered, "Nope, they won't have tails. But since we Meerkats are completely above pranking, anything that happens really isn't our fault. Honestly."

"We've talked a lot. But I thought he wasn't interested because of the alien thing," she admitted. "Then Bridge told me he was and I was thinking I might need to ask him. But he asked me first."

Xander cracked up. "Ahhahaah - that's whose love-life he meddled in. He totally bragged about copped to it in workshop when I had people doing two truths and a lie. Or, well, I knew he was copping to it because I knew which one his lie was."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"That was meddling I can appreciate. It gave me hope after all," she smiled. "Can I ask what was his lie? Or will it be TMI?"

"Gah! So very much no, since they had to confirm it if people guessed right." Xander shook his head rapidly. "His lie was that he'd spent a day at the beach last week. Which was all sneaky-like; I was very proud."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just checking," she laughed. "Because you never know around here. How did he lie about spending the day at the beach? I'm missing something here."

[personal profile] soldtoarmenians 2006-06-01 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Xander grinned widely. "I did drag him out to the beach; it just wasn't during the day."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ahhh," she drawled. "Now I get it. So you had a nice date of your own on the beach. Good job."

"We did. No sand in bad places, even." Granted this was because they hadn't done anything that would get sand in bad places, but there was that whole no-details pact he and Isabel had going, even if he'd been about to confess that, which he wasn't.

"I'm glad you and Greg had a good time ," he added. "Because I'm totally willing to menace him if you need it? But I'm really, really bad at it."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's good. Because sand in bad places is ouchie," Isabel grinned. "Not that I know this from personal experience, but it seems like a logical conclusion to draw."

She bumped against his arm and rested her head against his shoulder. "No menacing is needed. It's good. I think it might wind up being really good."

"Good," Xander echoed, smiling. "You deserve some really good."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"My fingers are crossed."

"Hey, I have a question. Your Willow's at Hogwarts. Do you think she could get hold of some pumpkin juice and butterbeers and send them over here?" Isabel asked, thinking of her earlier conversation with Cedric. "I'd like to surprise someone."

Xander blinked, then stroked his chin. "Probably? Maybe. I can ask. I think that might be a little big to send by owl, and the whole portaling here thing is mucho magic that she had to get special permission for. But the other Hogwarts kids get stuff from home, I'm sure, so there's gotta be a way. Maybe there's a wizardy UPS, or whatever the crumpety version of that would be."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wizardy UPS would be fine," she said. "If you can ask her, I'd appreciate it. She can just let me know how much and I'll send the money to her."
