Behind the Meerkat Cabin, late morning through lunch

Isabel didn't get to bed till late and didn't get to sleep until even later. She was too busy replaying the evening in her mind and smiling at the memory. Thursdays were workshop free, so she slept in late and then brought her blanket out to lie in shade of the trees behind the Meerkat cabin. The jug of iced tea is cold, her book is incredibly entertaining in that cheesy, this is entirely not plausible way and overall, life is good.

[Feel free to interrupt!]

"You're looking at how my day is going. I don't have any workshops so I'm being lazy," she smiled. "Although you're here now, so it's gotten even better."

He gave her a shy grin and blushed a little. "What were you reading when I walked up? It looked deeply entertaining."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The grin is a bit irresistible, so Isabel reached down to take his hand. Then the contagious blushing started. "It's an epic romance by someone who wants to be the next Angelica Desmesnes. It's okay, but it's still not in league with the great romance of the pirate and the ninja."

Greg gently intertwined his fingers with hers, and replied, "Well, not everyone can be like the pirate and ninja. Sometimes the less cracked-out stories are better, anyway."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's true," she agreed. "Although I did tell you that my favorite story of all time is a fantasy. It's incredible retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I think a magical castle and spells still qualify as pretty cracked out."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only a little. But it's not like cracked out is bad, either," he replied, smiling at her. "I mean, beauty and the beast, pirate and ninja, chemist and alien girl...."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is an unusual pairing. But I like it." Isabel smiled softly and bumped against his shoulder. "So are you going to the luau tomorrow?"

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't miss it," Greg said, completely ignoring that this was the first he'd heard about a luau. "I've never been to one. Though, knowing how things have been going here, I doubt it'll be anything like a normal luau."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're catching on," Isabel grinned, squeezing his hand lightly. "I figure there's going to be some sort of tiki statue there that's going to wind up demonically possessed and demanding a sacrifice. I'd say there was a good chance of a volcano exploding but we did that at the prom."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"...there was an exploding volcano at prom?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"There was an attempt at exploding the volcano at prom," she explained with a laugh. "Two of the students thought it would be amusing. Parker stopped them."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why doesn't it surprise me that Parker would wreck the fun of blowing something up like that?" Greg asked, his long-suffering tone not matching his grin at all.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"She only stopped them from blowing it up in the middle of the Prom," Isabel pointed out. "After the prom was over, she let them take it and blow it up on the beach."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nice of her," he said lightly, smiling over at her. "I'll have to introduce Parker to the fun of pretty chemicals. I bet she'd be more sympathetic to the plight of the amateur combustionists everywhere."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I should introduce you to Jarod, her boyfriend. You can teach him the tricks of pretty, romantic fires and he'll introduce it to Parker. Trust me, she'll appreciate it more that way." Isabel reached for the thermos, refilled her own cup and poured another for Greg. "Here. In case you're thirsty. Did I mention Parker was asking me questions in Archery yesterday? And she stopped by earlier to check in."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," he said with a grin as he took the cup. "And no, you didn't. I'm slightly afraid of Parker asking questions, really."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's no reason to be afraid," Isabel smiled. "She just was checking up on me. I promised her all was well. She's a good friend. I think if she could have gotten away with it she would have gone to Roswell and beaten the hell out of my brother for me at one point."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Greg raised a brow. "How many of your friends are going to be checking on me, do you think?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Isabel grinned and rested her head briefly on his shoulder. "Hmmm...Parker has made her threat. I don't think anyone else will. Although Xander offered to if I needed it. Although I assured him I don't."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I live in fear of a possible threat from Xander, then," he told her, pressing a light kiss to her forehead. "I think it's nice that you have protective friends, anyway, even if it's really unnecessary."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"They mean well," she laughed. "I'm also pretty sure they know it's unnecessary. But it's written in the friend code."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
"It's right there with, 'Thou Shalt Not Date Thy Friend's Sister' and 'Thou Shalt Not Take the Last Slice of Pizza Without Asking,'" Greg said seriously. "Completely understandable."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," she agreed. "But they're harmless threats. Mostly. Parker can be scary when she wants to be. Although she told me it was more of a test to see how you'd react." Isabel squeezed his hand again. "You passed."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I know Parker can be scary," he replied, smiling. "And she's fond of weird nicknames. No idea why." Greg squeezed her hand back. "Good to know I passed. I'd hate to know what'd happen to me if I'd failed."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I think the nicknames actually means she likes you. So you're doing good if she's given you one. So," she said with a grin. "I have the beach workshop tomorrow. Do you want me to ask Jarod about borrowing kayaks one day?"
