Room 406, evening

Isabel had had a busy week being pretty social since she'd returned to Fandom after spending the holidays in Roswell. It had been enjoyable, but surprisingly enough she was looking forward to the arrival of the new people and the start of classes. It was weird and in some ways sad to think it was for the last time.

There was a stack of blankets on the extra bed, ready for her trip out tonight to see the meteor shower, but for now Isabel was stretched out comfortably on her bed doing a little web surfing.

The door was open.

"Pretty much the same," she told him. "I'm just killing time till it's time to go out for the meteor shower tonight."

"Oh, there's a meteor shower?" Troy asked. "I didn't know. Sounds kinda fun. Going to watch it with anyone?"

"Yeah, it's not one of the really well known ones," Isabel explained. "But this year looks like it's going to be a good display so I'll brave the cold. Besides, Wyatt will be there. So we'll keep each other warm."

Troy nodded, trying hard to hide a little bit of a wince at the mention of Wyatt -- or, more accurately, of keeping each other warm. "Sounds like you'll have a good time, then," he said. "I guess I should leave you to... uh, yeah, I'll leave you alone, then." But he hesitated, even as he turned to leave the doorway.

"You don't have to go, really," she said, closing the laptop and sitting up. "I was melting my brain reading celebrity gossip. I really don't need to do that."

"Come in, have a seat. Tell me what's up in the world of Troy."

Troy moved into the room, taking the proffered seat, and opened his mouth to speak. Only silence came out, and a moment later he closed it. He took a breath, a deep one, and then all at once came out with, "A.J.brokeupwithmelastnight."

"Oh...I'm sorry," Isabel said. She hadn't expected that. "Can I ask why?"

"I think... I think because of Beauty," Troy said, his head down. "He wanted to date both of us, but then I guess he just... it's really working out for them. And I'm kinda happy for him, having someone like that, but... ... he was my person like that."

She wasn't certain what to say, anything she could think of sounded like empty promises. "That's hard. But you're allowed to be upset. Because it hurts."

"Yeah, I..." Troy trailed off, looking up. "I felt bad, 'cause I kissed someone else on New Year's, but then I get back, and..." He frowned. "And I shouldn't even have felt bad in the first place, right? If he's already dating me and Beauty, I should be able to kiss someone else, right?"

"I'd say. I mean it's high school isn't it?" Isabel said. "It's not like you're married or were being exclusive or anything."

Troy looked... perhaps less than convinced. Or perhaps just emo. "Yeah, I guess..." He frowned. "... I'm sorry for coming in and being all... Yeah. Uh. Thanks."

"Troy, it's okay. Really," she told him. "I'm sorry, it's just my experience with relationships? Well, believe it or not? It's fairly limited. At least as far as relationships that matter. All I can say is that it hurts now. But it does get better. Eventually."

Troy nodded. "I... Yeah, I guess I know that." He sighed. "... I guess I should probably talk to A.J. about it, shouldn't I? I... kinda ran out on him last night."

"It helps, even if it is awkward," Isabel said, thinking of her conversations with Greg after they broke up. "But maybe you can be friends at least."

"I hope so," Troy said, sighing. "I... Thanks for listening. I didn't mean to just unload on you like that."

She shrugged, wishing she could do more. "It's okay, I'm just sorry I don't have a way to make things better for you."
