Room 406, Morning

Attending Jaye's party had actually left Isabel in a pretty good mood, despite her worries about the previous day and the lingering grief she refused to acknowledge about her trip home to Roswell.

She went to bed, slept through the radio broadcast, and woke up, good mood still in place. As she showered, Isabel made plans. She would talk to Janet at some point today, explain once again why she didn't say anything. Hopefully Janet would understand and maybe she could talk to Veronica. It wasn't the greatest solution but it was the best she could come up with at the moment.

But then she heard Peter's message. Puzzled, and with a sinking feeling in her stomach, she listened to the to the podcast.

That bitch.

She couldn't imagine where or how she'd learned the truth. But now it was out there and everyone would know. Honestly, it's not that she expected anyone in Fandom to react badly, at least she hoped. Yet more people knowing the truth meant the more people could possibly be hurt because of her. Tess might be gone, but there were was always the Special Unit or even the other mysterious alien enemies they'd been warned about.

Her hands shook just a bit as she got dressed. But she took a deep breath and tried to still them.

She would deal with this. Just like she's dealt with everything else.

Sometime around what would be second period, if he had any classes in the morning which HA Friday, so no, Xander showed back up to the room, balancing a drink-carrier from the Perk in the crook of one arm as he opened the door.

"Mocha?" he asked, holding it out to Isabel once he'd made it inside without spilling anything. "Sources say more coffee is the key to better understanding of life, the universe, and everything... Granted sources are Jake Gavin, so sources should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Or cream and sugar, as preferred."

Isabel was dressed and sitting on her bed, staring into space, still trying to process that fact that most of the school probably knew the truth by now.

She looked up, startled, when Xander came in the room.

"Hey." He walked over to her bed and held out a cup. "Coffee?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," she said as she took a cup. It would make a great breakfast, since she doubted she'd be able to actually eat real food today. "Have you heard the radio yet?"

"Not last night's. Last one I caught was Jaye being drunkenated on Wednesday. Whyfor?"

He took a sip from his own cup.

She studied her own cup for a minute before looking up. "You know that big secret I was keeping? It's um, not so secret anymore."

Xander blinked at her. "Not so sec-- they reported it on the radio?" He covered his mouth. "Crap."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"That pretty much summed up my reaction." She took a sip of coffee and sighed. "But it was going to come out someday. It's kind of hard to keep secrets around here."

Xander grimaced. "Yeah, but -- crap. You were right - if I hadn't said anything to Veronica--"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, don't. It could have been anything," Isabel said with a smile that didn't quite make it all the way to her eyes. "Maybe someone saw me whammy Logan's door and figured it out from there. Somebody could have heard me talk to Peter at one point or another. With all the video feeds around here I don't think we'll ever know the truth. But it still doesn't stop me from hating that woman."

"You whammied-- right, not the point." Xander blinked again. "Though I probably should've asked who else knew, yesterday, back when it mattered." He was possibly babbling a little, because crap.

He scratched his head. "That woman? Did Ms. Skeeter have the radio?" All the other announcers were students, after all.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Before the whole thing with Janet and Veronica on Wednesday? There were only three people still at this school who knew the truth. Angel, Peter, and Parker and I know that they would never say anthing. I don't think we'll ever know how the radio found out." She shook her head, "I wouldn't be surprised if they had the rooms bugged."

"Yeah, it was Skeeter. That bitch."

It wasn't like she didn't have cause to be upset. Still, Xander kinda had personal experience with the whole alien secrets issue, and...

"Not to play Bitca's Advocate, but she might not have known you didn't want people knowing," he pointed out. "If somebody just gave her a list of news stuff to read..."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe, but I just can't think of how she would have learned about it. And she knew details. She said it was supposed to be a secret and wondered why it was." Isabel got up and started to pace. "I just don't understand how she knew. I've never, ever talked to anyone about it where it could be overheard. It's not a common room type conversation."

Xander frowned. "Ok, she knew it was supposed to be a secret and she still announced it; color me de-advocated." He moved over to his desk and flipped the laptop open. "I don't know what good it could do, but my friend Willow knows something about her; she keeps cackling in e-mails but not telling what's so funny. I'll shoot her a message after I grab the radio cast, and see if I can get a straight answer out of her."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-03-25 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"That would be good," Isabel said. "Maybe we can find out if she has any deep secrets of her own."

"Seems pretty fair." Xander wasn't exactly Jake on the vengey scale, but he wasn't immune to the desire to see people get what was coming to them, especially people who hurt people he liked.

The radio having downloaded, he clicked PLAY and heard the sound of Rita Skeeter's voice opening the broadcast. "Good evening, everyone. This is Professor Ms. ... er......"
