The Halliwell Manor, Saturday morning

After spending the week worrying about Savannah and trying to get a particularly annoying paper done, Isabel was thrilled when Wyatt invited her to spend the weekend in San Francisco.

Taking advantage of his grandfather being out of town to have a few days to themselves? Never...

After a late night, Isabel was still half asleep when she climbed out of bed, pulled on one of Wyatt's t-shirts, and quietly went in search of the coffee maker, wondering if Wyatt would enjoy breakfast in bed.

"She doesn't see it that way," Fork said flatly. "She wants to save me, or failing that, kill me."

"Have you given her any reason to think differently?" she asked. "Or did you just try to make her dinner?"

"I wouldn't kill her," Fork said. Well, unless his master ordered it. "I wanted her to join us."

Some say po-ta-to, others say po-tah-to. "But you wanted to make her a vampire. Isn't that the same thing?"

"Undead isn't the same as dead," Fork said. "Besides, then other vampires would stop trying to kill her. She'd be safer."

"She'd be dead," Isabel pointed out. "She wouldn't get to see the sunrise, or to enjoy a piece of chocolate. Her life would be over."

"Her life is going to be over soon anyway," Fork countered. "Vampire hunters don't live long. I'm proof of that."

That was enough to make her pause for a moment, feeling a wave of sympathy for his girlfriend. "I'm sorry."

Fork shrugged. "This is what I am now," he said. "And I like it."

"But it's wrong," Isabel started to say, before stopping herself abruptly. "I'm sorry. Difference in worldview. And I don't think either one of us is going to change the other's mind in the next two days."

And if they kept up the conversation, she was probably going to wind up depressed. The potential parallels were too scary.

"Dammit, I actually miss Christian."

"Who's Christian?" Fork had to ask.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Isabel told him.

"Try me," Fork said. "Not like we have anything else to do."

It was a much better conversation. "You might have noticed that I'm not exactly flailing about that you're here and Wyatt's not. That's because this has happened before."

"He turned into this Christian guy, huh?" Fork said. "Must be fun to wake up with such variety in your bed."

"Oh it's entertaining. Particularly since that morning I woke up thinking I was an entertainment reporter. And I was eight and a half months pregnant," Isabel said dryly.

Fork stared at her. "What kind of fucked up world is this?" he said.

Ahh... The lovely sound of breaking brains. Would he like some crazy glue? to put his back together?

"It's strange and bizarre. But never boring."

"So if I'm your boyfriend from some bizarre other world," Fork said, sliding closer, "then it wouldn't be cheating if you and I...." Oh yes, one track mind here.

Isabel had just pulled a frying pan from the cabinet. She hefted it in her one hand, and rapped her knuckles against its bottom.

"Do you really want me to beat you over the head with this?"

"Wouldn't you just use your little magical power instead?" Fork said. Maybe she had limitations to her ability. That would be helpful.

"But that's no where near as satisfying."

That sounded almost...flirty.

Isabel briefly considered hitting herself over the head with the frying pan.

"You like a hands-on approach?" Fork said.

"That's for me to know," Isabel grinned. "And you NOT to find out."

"We've got two days to kill, might as well enjoy them," Fork insisted. "What else are we going to do, play chess?"
