Room 406, Late Afternoon

Isabel had spent the past two days hiding in her room pretending to be a scary bear. It was lonely, but she was too afraid of the bad men Max had warned her about to open her door and go out, even when she heard other kids go laughing by the door.

To pass the time she tried to color. But it was boring when you didn't have any crayons and had to use a pen. Every once in a while she would look at the door and try to work up the courage to go out.

"Who are you going to marry?" Isabel asked curiously. "Can I come?"

"A'course you can!" Rory said, bouncing. "I'm gonna marry Anakin 'cause he carried me yesterday an' he's nice an' I like his hair."

Isabel nodded vigorously. "He's nice. I like him. He's from another planet like me."

"He's froom 'tooine an' Core-skant!" Rory said gleefully. "I'm gonna marry him an' when we're big 'nuff we'll get babies from the hopsiddle! An' we'll have dool inkums."

"That'll be nice. Are you going to get boy babies or girl babies? I have brother," she said. "He's okay. But I wish I had a sister."

"Girls, 'cause they're betterer," Rory informed her. "I'm gonna get a li'l brother!"

"Girls are better. Boys are smelly sometimes. And they're always bossy," she said firmly. "You are? Can I come visit sometimes? I've never seen a really little baby up close before."

Rory nodded. "We're gonna get him from the hopsiddle in the summer an' he'll be little bitty. An' I'll be the big sister!"

"You'll have to read him stories. I like it when my mommy reads me stories."

"I can read," Rory told her seriously.

Isabel is impressed. "But you're littler then me. I only just learned how."

"Gramma says I'm precooshious," Rory said.

"What's that mean?" Isabel asked.

"Smart an' li'l, I think," Rory said.

Isabel nodded. "That would be you. Do you want jewelry for your wedding? Cause I've got some."

"Oooh?" Rory asked. "I have a pretty dress I'm gonna wear. An' TIGHTS. An' a veil!"

"Well you need jewelry. Cause that makes it special and sparkly. That's what my mom says." Isabel ran across the room to her dresser and stood on her tippy toes to reach into the top drawer. When her hand came out it was filled with a collection of costume jewelry. "What do you like?"

"Necklaces!" Rory exclaimed gleefully.

"Pretty necklaces!" Isabel held out a gold chain with a big heart hanging from it. "How about this one?"
