Karate had been interesting. It was obvious she had a lot to learn, but Isabel was fairly certain she was going to enjoy the class. But for the moment, she was sitting on her bed, playing a few thousand hands of Spider Solitare and trying to refine a plan of revenge in her head.

[the curtain is open!]

"Well, he's just stupid, then," Dawn decided. "But I'm sorry you liked someone who turned out to be so stupid." She patted Isabel on the shoulder.

"Maybe he was just thinking of something else?" She asked hopefully.

Isabel smiled at the shoulder pat. "He's not stupid. He's being smart. Who wants to get involved with someone that has my baggage?"

"I'm okay with it, I mean it's obvious he wants to at least be friends. And it's not like I have so many of them that I can afford to turn one down."

"How bad can the baggage be?" Dawn asked sympathetically, sitting cross-legged on the bed now. "And it's good to have friends, but it's tough when you want to be more and he doesn't. Did he say something? Anything? Buy you a vowel?"

"My brother, our friend Michael and I? We sort of have this destiny where we're supposed to go back to our home planet and free them," Isabel explained quietly. "Nevermind that we already died once fighting that war. Add in the fact that I'm not sure when we're going to leave to go do this. It could be five years from now, or it could be tomorrow."

"It'll be fine. I'll be fine. He's sweet and he makes me laugh. He'll be a good friend. I can be okay with that."

"Destiny sucks," Dawn said emphatically, but decided to save the retelling of her destiny for some day when Isabel wasn't depressed. "Are you thinking of not going?"

"Isabel...you shouldn't have to be okay. You deserve better."

"I'd love to say the hell with. But we owe them," she said with a shrug of her shoulders. "We died. Our mother made us, like this to come save them. It would be pretty selfish to let a whole planet of people down just because I don't want to leave my family and friends."

"Dawn, I'm fine with okay. I've got good friends. I'm at a place where I can tell the truth about myself, where I don't have to hide. I'm actually doing better then okay," she finished.

"Okay, but that doesn't mean you have to like it, and that doesn't mean you can't be afraid of it," Dawn said quietly. But she wouldn't push the romance thing--obviously Isabel wanted to work it out for herself. Or not. "I've been afraid of destiny before, too. If you ever want to talk."

"Thanks Dawn, I appreciate it," Isabel said. "I'm getting used to it though. Believe it or not? Being here in Fandom has helped a lot."

"If you're sure..." Dawn got off the bed. "I'll be in the common room, if you want to talk later."

"I'll keep that in mind," Isabel smiled. "Thank you Dawn."

"You're welcome, Isabel," Dawn waved and walked over to her cubicle to get paper and a pen.
