Behind the Meerkat Cabin, late morning through lunch

Isabel didn't get to bed till late and didn't get to sleep until even later. She was too busy replaying the evening in her mind and smiling at the memory. Thursdays were workshop free, so she slept in late and then brought her blanket out to lie in shade of the trees behind the Meerkat cabin. The jug of iced tea is cold, her book is incredibly entertaining in that cheesy, this is entirely not plausible way and overall, life is good.

"There'll be plenty of opportunity to do so around here if you ever want to try it. Despite being underage, most people seem to have no problem getting a hold of alcohol." She wrinkled her nose, "I wouldn't recommend it though. Not if you like being in control. You're definitely not when you're drinking. I wasn't and you're right, it could have been much worse. Fortunately Jack looked out for me."

Isabel took a sip of her drink and smiled. "So what do witches and wizards in training due to get a little crazy if they don't drink?"

"Butterbeer is the popular beverage of choice," he says. "While it is alcoholic, it's doesn't have much effect on humans. It's a bit like butterscotch for a comparison. Quite good and without the effects of feeling like you're intoxicated."

"Drinkable butterscotch? That sounds good," she said. "We might have to see about getting some for you. Wouldn't want you to do without if it can be avoided."

"I've only had butterbeer a few times," he says. "It's good but not something readily available at Hogwarts. It's found in Hogsmeade, mostly. I'm preferable to tea, of course, hot chocolate and pumpkin juice. The last is something I'm readily missing."

"Pumpkin juice? Hot or cold?" she asked. "I have to admit that's a new one for me. But if that's what your missing, we're going to have to see about fixing that."

"Iced," he says, taking a sip of the tea. "Very good for extremely warm summer days. One of the staples of Hogwarts. Hm."

He trails off and looks away before a moment before turning back and smiling.

"Seems very far away lately. England, that is."

"Then we'll definitely get some. Because it's going to be a long hot summer here. It might start a new trend."

She took a sip of her own tea, studying the ice in the cup. "I'm sure it does. From what I've heard it's like a whole different world. It has to be strange coming from there to here." She laughed softly, "Even if Fandom is it's own different world. How are you coping?"

Shaking his head, he says, "By being melodramatic, apparently. I need to stop moping about this or I'm liable to drive people crazy. I like it here, honestly. I'm growing very attached to this place so constantly wondering about the past...I need to stop that."

Isabel poked his shoulder. "You are not being melodramtic. Trust me. Whether you like it here or not, you've still got legitimate questions you want answers to. There's nothing wrong with that," she said firmly. "Of course, while your waiting for those answers, there really is nothing stopping you from kicking back and having a good time. Like a the luau tomorrow night. Are you going?"

He grins easily, shaking off the meloncholy.

"I've been having a good time. I'm actually surprised by how much fun I've had," he says and it's not a sudden realization. He really has been. "And luau? I might. Sounds like it might be fun."

"Fun is kind of unavoidable around here. It just pulls you in and makes you enjoy," Isabel grinned. "It should be. I think. Of course it's Fandom which means that if there's any sort of tiki prop or something, there's a good chance it's going to come to life and demand a sacrifice. Do you have a Hawaiian shirt to wear?"

"I have some very brightly colored ties?" He shrugs and proceeds to look sheepish again. "So, that would be a no."

"No ties!" she said quickly. "It's summer. In Virginia. You'll melt away. How about a simple button down shirt?"

"White, mostly. Long sleeves. They were part of our school uniform," he tells her. "I've a few t-shirts and sweaters."

"I can make you a nice shirt for the luau if you'd like. If you don't mind sacrificing one of your school shirts. Although considering you won't be able to wear it for the next four months, it might not be such a sacrifice," she said. "It's up to you."

"I've plenty of school shirts," he says. "Sacrificing one for the good of a luau wouldn't be too bad. Besides, I've never had a Hawaiian shirt before. I think I might like one."

"It'll look good on you. Add a lei and you'll really be in the spirit of things," she said. "Just drop it by my cabin tonight or early tomorrow afternoon. It won't take me long." Holding up her hands she wiggled her fingers. "I'll be working my own kind of magic."

"Ah yes, you're my magic equal," he teases lightly. "You're one up on me though. You don't have to use a wand. They're very fumbly at times, wands. I'm always scared of dropping mine when it's needed."

"I don't know about that. I still feel like most of what I do is just minor party tricks. Although that's the point of practicing, to figure out what else I can do." Isabel grinned, "Tell you what, if the zombies attack again? I'll super glue your wand to your hand. And then undo it when the attack is over."

"Are your skills still developing then or are you not sure?" Cedrics asks. "And yes, that's a deal."

"Mostly we're just not sure what we can do," Isabel shrugged. "The way things happened, we were left without anyone to guide us or train us. We've had to figure everything out on our own. And because we were trying to stay under the rader, we never could push our limits. I can do this," she said, holding out her hand and causing a fist sized rock to rise in the air. "But I don't know if I can do this." She held her hand out towards one of the much larger rocks that were scattered near the Meerkat campfire. Concentrating for a moment, she grinned when it rose in the air. "Although apparently I can."

"Very nice," Cedric says, clearly impressed. "So, really, you could have an endless well of talent and just not know about it, right? That's...similar to wizard, actually. Any wizard can rise to any level of magic. Most of it depends on particular skill in a specialized area, motivation and, of course, affiliation."

"Thanks," she grinned. "Talk about surprising yourself. I might. The only limit is the power in my brain I guess. Our powers were described as purely human. It's just that the people that made us, maximized the power of the human brain. They just skipped several thousand years of evolution."

"Were you specializing in any one area? And affiliation, that was your house right?"

"Maximization of the brain? Does that mean your intelligence was altered as well?" Cedric asks. "I wasn't specializing, no, and affliation can be the house but it can also mean the side, I guess. Good or bad. Not all wizards are good."

"Not as far as I can tell. I mean, I'm reasonably smart but no more then some of the other people around here," she said. "Liz, my brother's girlfriend said that people really only use a small percentage of their brains actually capacity. I guess whoever made us found a way to use all of it to give us our powers."

"Is that a big problem? Good versus bad?"
