Behind the Meerkat Cabin, late morning through lunch

Isabel didn't get to bed till late and didn't get to sleep until even later. She was too busy replaying the evening in her mind and smiling at the memory. Thursdays were workshop free, so she slept in late and then brought her blanket out to lie in shade of the trees behind the Meerkat cabin. The jug of iced tea is cold, her book is incredibly entertaining in that cheesy, this is entirely not plausible way and overall, life is good.

"Maybe," she sighed. "Okay, so I got my planning skills from Spike. I can overcome that."

"Spike? As in vampire Spike?" Isabel's heard enough stories from Xander and in her time in Fandom to recognize the name. "No offense but you come from a weird universe Dawn."

"None taken," Dawn replied, "I mean, it's not like I can argue with you."

"But it's home right?" Isabel asked with a smile. "I'd think in the end, that's all that matters."

"Yeah, but it's not like this place is bad. I really like it a lot here, though I'm starting to think you're exaggerating some of it."

"It's been unusaully quiet for Fandom these last few weeks. Honestly? I'm starting to get worried."

"Does it run in cycles here? Maybe we're just in a natural slow period?" Dawn suggested.

"I don't know," Isabel sighed. "I've only been here since January. At the end of the semester we had acorn flinging trees, striking washing machines, random slime attacks and dancing lemurs. We haven't had anything unusual happen since then. It's too quiet."

Dawn stared at Isabel.

More shrugging. "The sad thing is, that's only the little stuff. More petty annoyances then anything else. Attacks by things that leave you dead seem to only happen once a semester. Well occasionally more if you count random vampire or demon attacks but we really haven't had a problem with them since February's study group. Even Phoebe being kidnapped technically falls under family disturbance since it was Bel's mom that kidnapped her."

"I count random vampire or demon attacks," she nodded emphatically. "I especially count the non-random ones. And Bel's mom kidnapped Phoebe?" She winced, glad Spike's mother hadn't been around. "What did Bel do?"

"He organized a bunch of us to go on a rescue mission. And when he found his mom, he killed her," she said quietly.

Dawn closed her eyes. "God."

"I know. But she didn't give him a choice. She wanted him back, wanted him evil. He wouldn't do it." Isabel sighed, "He knows he did the right thing, but still..."

"It's still his mom," Dawn said quietly. "But good for him, I guess."

"Yeah, not really something you can run up and pat him on the back for. Even if you'd want to," she said. "Have you talked to him much?"

"I've had a few conversations with him, and I got in the middle of a testosterone poisoned argument he was having with Dean on like our second day."

"I saw that," Isabel said. "I was getting ready to step in when you did. He's a good guy. We've talked a lot. He was one of the first people that called me after the radio told everyone the truth about me. He offered to kick ass if anyone gave me a hard time. You have to appreciate that."

"You do," Dawn smiled. "I know he worries Sam and Dean, but I didn't go wrong trusting Spike minus the one time I had to threaten to set him on fire but I don't like to think about that, and I'm willing to take the chance on Bel."

"I can understand that, just from what Dean's told me. But I don't think you're wrong."

"Well, if we're wrong, at least we can feel stupid together?" She said, hopefully.

"If we're wrong we can join the crowd of people that will be looking to kick his ass," she grinned. "And it'll be a big crowd."
