Room 406, after cheerleading

Random pudding showers are enough to convince Isabel of the wisdom of staying indoors after cheerleading. After a quick shower to wash off the pudding that caught her on the way back from practice, she down to sort through the pieces of the new nice, generic, non trademarked, no need of meta puzzle she'd gotten.

The door's open.

If anyone were passing in the hallway, the mind find Cameron staring at the door for a good full minute before he finally managed to gather the courage to actually knock.

Isabel looked up from sorting puzzle pieces and blinked. "Hey."

"Yo," he said, lingering at the doorframe still. "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

More blinking. Isabel's pretty certain Cam's never said that to her before. "Okay," she said slowly.

A small nod and he moved inside the room, closing the door behind him. For a moment, he remained quiet, but it was obvious that he was nervous as he was fully expecting this to go all wrong as well. "You don't have to forgive me or do anything really, but I just wanted to apologise. I've been a lousy friend to you. You tried to be there and I pushed you away and I'm sorry. You deserved better than that."

That was completely unexpected. Isabel put the puzzle pieces down and leaned back against the side of her bed. "Have a seat," she said, waving at the extra bed and then fell silent, trying to think of what to say. Finally, she shrugged. "I don't know that there's anything to forgive. I offered. You didn't want help, or need it, at least not from me. Life went on."

Cameron sat down on the edge of the bed and rubbed a hand through his hair. "I'm not good at the whole taking thing," he said honestly. "I just realised that you were there and that does mean something to me. I just wished I'd shown you that in other ways than ignoring it."

She nodded, "I've noticed. I don't think I've talked to you in weeks."

"Yeah, I've heard that complaint before," he said with a wry smile. "I'm going to try and hide into the hallways more. Not trying to prank you guys, might help some."

"Like I said, life goes on. There's been plenty of stuff to keep me busy," Isabel said with a small smile. "It'd be nice to see you more often but don't feel like you have to go out of your way on my account."

"It would be nice," Cameron agreed. "And I'd like to give it a go. I just wanted you to know that."

"It would be," she agreed. "And I appreciate you telling me that." Isabel looked down, idly stirring the pile of puzzle pieces still to be sorted. "Can I ask what brought this on?"

"Yeah," he said, but he went quiet for a moment as he looked down at his hands. "Aeryn just pointed out some truths that got me thinking about my behaviour these last few months. It made me realise that she wasn't the only person I've been shutting out."

Parker knocked on the door, bearing a bag of chocolates and a bored expression. "Knock, knock. Entertain me, and I'll give you candy?"

Isabel smiled and pointed at the puzzle pieces. "I'm being boring, but I suppose I can give it a try. A man and a duck walked into a bar," she began.

Parker grinned, sitting down on the bed. "You're not taking how to be an entertainer, are you? This could count for extra credit."

"No, because that involves dealing with creepy guy and I stay far away from him. Besides," Isabel admitted with an embarassed laugh. "I can't remember the rest of the joke. Yes, I am sad and pathetic."

Parker snickered. "I know another one about a duck and a guy in a bar, but let's not go there. How's your day been?" Her grin widened. "How was the, and I quote, 'daaaaate'?"

"Thank you no, let's not. And my day has been decent," she said before wrinkling her nose. "If you don't count the pudding that dropped on me on my way back from cheerleader practice." Isabel shook her head. "You and Peter are both looking to get thwapped. It was nice. If a bit wet."

"Did it rain? That does tend to cut down on the fun factor," Parker admitted, unwrapping a candy. "And I must compare notes with your BFF. Plus I have to hear how Zero's birthday went."

"Actually the rain didn't start until after we got back. We tipped the canoe," Isabel admitted making sure not to assign blame for the tipping. She held out her hand for a candy. "Feed me please? Fortunately I had towels and everything packed in a dry bag. It was still cold though."

She facepalmed. "I fear that possibility. Although you do need to talk to him. It was not a quiet visit."

"Of course it wasn't, it was the Hopeless-Savages. I look forward to hearing the details." Parker tossed a candy to Isabel, then grinned. "You tipped it? Did you have to huddled together for warmth?"

"He came back with blue hair if that tells you anything. And," she chuckled. "He had the talk with Zero's dad." Isabel tried to look innocent, "Maybe?"

"That Zero is probably in fine form, and Dirk Hopeless-Savage hasn't slowed down any with age." Parker snickered, popped a chocolate in her mouth, chewed and swallowed. "And maybe? Yes? Towels and cuddling and 'ooo, Greg, it's so coooold'?"

"He was mildly traumatized. And slightly bruised. But happy that he'd seen her." Isabel rolled her eyes. "Parker, it was the second date for heaven's sake. But there might have been a hug or two," she admitted. "You know, share the body heat and all."
