Meerkat, Isabel's Alcove, early afternoon

Isabel didn't get in until late Friday night after spending the evening swimming at the beach. That means her plans for a hot and humid Saturday included sleeping in and and then some brain candy. Sprawled on her bed, she's re-reading the newest pirate/ninja novel and snickering.

Her curtain is open.

"Sure." Isabel reached out and took a cookie, putting the clues together as she did so. "Hangover?"

"The number one reason I don't drink. Speaking of, are all our classmates drunk or something? I heard singing and wrong people were with more wrong people."

"I've never had one," Isabel admitted. "Of course I've only been drunk once. And that was off of a sip of Jack's drink." She shook her head, "I'm thinking the gremlins are back. Dawn and Aeryn were telling me about the strangeness. That seems to be the only explaination."

Alanna began munching on cookies. "I can hold my liquor, but I'm always afraid I'll let something slip while under the influence that I very, very rarely drink." She sighed. "Go gremlins."

"But you did last night," she said. "Was there a reason?" Nibbling on her own cookie, Isabel contemplated gremlins. "I hope they're not back. I always worry I'm going to run into one."

"Got motion sick in flight class, talked to Anakin afterwards, and then...Career Fair." Alanna ate another cookie. "Ever have a day when you begin to think the entire universe is laughing at you?"

"I avoided the career fair. Mine's pretty set for the moment," Isabel said with only a touch of bitterness. "I don't know about the laughing, but I have had some times when I felt the universe was looking to see if it could kill me."

Alanna nodded. "I shouldn't have gone, I already know what I'm going to be doing. But I figured, 'Hey, what's the worst that could happen?'" She laughed dryly. "Stupid question to ask at this school." "It could have been worse." "No, no it couldn't have."

"What happened?" she asked, curious.

"You know how back home everyone thinks I'm a boy? Well, Duke Roger shows up yesterday. Duke Roger who everyone loves and worships and adores and I think he's trying to kill the royal family to get the crown for himself. So I duck out of sight, since I'm very evidently a girl at this moment, and into a random boothe. Talk to the girl there. She's heard of Trebond. She's heard of me. She looks vaguely familiar. She says she's from the future." Alanna laughed dryly again. "And as I'm about to take off for the school, with her help now passable for a boy, she calls out 'Good luck Mother'. And then I went and got really drunk. How was your day?" She sounded very close to hysterics again.

Isabel opened and closed her mouth several times before finally reaching out and patting Alanna on the shoulder. "No where near as interesting as yours apparently. I had to study about plant life that wants to turn humans into compost and then I went swimming."

"I can see why having Duke Roger show up would be bad," she said. "But your daughter? That's wonderful."

"I like your day better because mine started out with Anakin nearly throwing up because of my flying." Bye-bye cookie number seven. "No it's not. Yes it is. No it's not. See my problem? She looks familiar, so I know her father already I figure. That or she looks like my father." Alanna blinked. "Actually, that might be it. So I might not know her father yet. And having kids was so not part of my plan so if I have a kid, some part of my plan went wrong." She paused. "Or something."

"Plans change. All the time. And it's not always bad that they do," She said softly. "You have a daughter. That means you live. That you loved someone enough to have a child with them. You have a future. I'd love to know that that's waiting for me."

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"All it means is that I live at least another year. I might not even get my shield." Alanna threw her hands up. "I don't know. I'm confused, upset, and scared because Parker apparently talked to Roger and I couldn't ask her if she called me Alan or Alanna because I was too drunk."

Re: After people

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Isabel nodded, starting to understand Alanna's concerns. "You'll get it. You want it to much to not get it. As for Parker, she knows that you're supposed to be Alan there right?"

Re: After people

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Alanna nodded. "She's supposed to. But I think she was pissed at Roger. Which, yay Parker. But if she let something slip? I'm dead."

Re: After people

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering all the secrets Parker was keeping, somehow Isabel doubted it. "I'm sure she didn't. She's too good at keeping her mouth shut and protecting her friends. But you can always ask her, just to make sure."

Re: After people

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Alanna nodded and grabbed a cookie. "Life? Is way too complicated sometimes."

Re: After people

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're only just realizing this?" Isabel asked.

Re: After people

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Alanna snorted and winced. "It just wanted to remind me. So what's your future career? Since you said yours is set."

Re: After people

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's a planet that has to be saved," she said quietly. "I've already died there once. There's a chance it could happen again."

Re: After people

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Alanna chocked on her cookie. "How does that work?"

Re: After people

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"We were killed in battle," Isabel explained, trying not to think about the part where it happened because she betrayed her brother. "Somehow our mother managed to combine our alien essence with human DNA to create who we are now. We were sent to earth to grow up safely until we could return to save them."

Re: After people

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Woah. Yeah, I can see where the set future will come in." Alanna blinked a bit.

Re: After people

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-23 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," she said. "I really don't want to do it. I like my life here, I've got family, friends. I don't remember there at all. But if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here, you know?" Isabel looked down, studying the blanket. "So I sort of owe them I guess."
