Isabel's in her room reading Crown Diamond and enjoying the idea of not having anything to do for the next few days.

The door's open and she's completely interruptable.

Lying right then would have been much simpler than truth, but he wouldn't, not if he could help it. "Not if there were any other choice."

Isabel nodded, "I get that. Just more misdirection?"

"Hopefully." And that was all he could promise.

"I can live with that," Isabel nodded. "As long as you realize it could go both ways." She realized she was contradicting what she had said earlier, but she was pretty sure Jack would understand.

"Of course," he replied calmly. "You have people to protect, back home and here, and sometimes that means you can't tell the whole truth."

She had a feeling she had messed up somehow. "Yes," she said simply.

"Izzy?" Perplexed, he pulled back to look at her. "I get it, I really do. I could have just said yes, I'd never lie to you, but you deserve honesty. I never want to, but I can't promise I won't, and I knew you'd understand. Because that was kind of your life before you came here."

"I'm sorry," Isabel said quietly. "I understand, really. And you're right, it was. Sometimes I wonder how I'm going to go back to that life when I'm done here."

"You and me both, Isabel. You and me both." Jack settled her head on his shoulder and leaned his head against hers. "But you'll go off and save your planet, and I'll spread charm and smiles around the universe as a Time Agent, and we won't really go back to our old lives. Because after being here? I'm not sure they'll fit us anymore."

"I'm starting to think running away to Mexico might not be such a bad idea," she said wistfully. "A wizard to drink with, two handsome cabana boys for anything else I might need. Forget the universe. Let's go to the beach."

"Sam's got to come with us, but yeah. It's a plan," he laughed. "You, me, Cedric, Sam, and, hang on...Two cabana boys?" Jack raised an eyebrow at her. "I guess Greg can come as well. Mexico isn't going to know what hit it."

"He has to. I couldn't imagine leaving him behind," Isabel smiled. "Not unless you thingies want to share you."

"Probably not." Jack grinned and lifted her hand to kiss it. "But for you? I'd risk their wrath."

"Awww," she grinned, tucking his hand against her chest. "I'm touched."

"Nowhere fun, unfortunately." Smirking, he cupped her cheek with his other hand, and his smirk faded to a gentle smile. "But anytime you change your mind..." he said teasingly.

Isabel blinked, torn between mild outrage and tenderness. She settled for tenderness, tilting her head to trap Jack's hand against her shoulder. "It's an incredibly tempting offer, but no. I don't want to mess what we have up. It's too important to me."

Jack's suddenly broad smile was warm, and he squeezed her hand. "I agree. And that's something I've never said to anybody else."

"I'm honored," she smiled, wrapping her arms around him and holding on tightly.

"Yeah, well, you should be," he laughed, not at all serious, hugging her just as tightly. "So am I." And that was quiet and soft and very serious.

Head resting on his shoulder, Isabel laughed softly. "Can you explain how a simple visit became such a deep conversation?"

"Nope." He pressed a quick kiss to her cheek and laughed. "We're just that good?"

"We're very good indeed," she grinned.

"Mexico is in serious trouble." He carefully extricated himself from Isabel's arms and stood up. "You okay?" he asked, smiling down at her.

"We'll be running the country within a year." Isabel reached up to catch his hand. "I'm fine. More then fine."

"If it takes that long." Jack squeezed her hand. "Good. I'm gonna go, see if I can casually run into either of my thingies."
