Room 406, Wednesday evening

It had been a fairly successful day. Isabel had landed a position as a TA or "staffer" in political campaigning and helped Cam with the paint job on the swoop bike. But she wasn't in the mood for the common rooms tonight, even if she would have liked to have seen a repeat performance of last night's Gremlin Theater.

Sitting on her bed with her laptop playing music, she did her nails.

"I'm sorry," she said. "I forget sometimes that you won't get all the stupid little references." Isabel capped the polish and sat back. "The first part is simple. The Boy Scouts are an organization for boys that teaches leadership and civics. Their motto is 'Be prepared'. The other part is a little more strange. Are you ready for it?"

"Well, the first part makes a sort of sense," she says. "I'm ready."

"Okay, hopefully this won't break your brain too badly," Isabel said seriously. "There are certain religions on earth that believe when you die, your soul is born again and you live another, different life. They also believe that you can occasionally remember what happened in your past lives. So I was making a small joke when I said I was a boy scout in a past life. I mean, I obviously wasn't." She ignored the little voice that pointed out she'd been a traitorous bitch. "Does that make sense? Even in an odd sort of way?"

Aeryn's brain hasn't exactly broken, but it's straining a little. "Not at all really, no," she says, shaking her head. "I don't think it's one of those things I'll really understand, though."

"Trust me, the whole religion thing? I don't understand it either." Isabel rolled her eyes, "Although it's occasionally entertaining to watch some nutjob try to claim she was Marie Antoinette in a past life. Everyone is always someone famous. They're never just the maid, or a random peasant." Feeling bad, Isabel stopped before she wound up having to explain karma and past lives as a bug. "So what else has been happening?"

Aeryn's a little glad for the subject change. "Classes, mostly. Meeting the new kids," she says, and shrugs a little. "And I'm sure you've heard by now."

Isabel nodded, "I have. Luke told me on Monday. I'm trying not to think about it. But that doesn't seem to be working too well."

"It's getting easier," Aeryn admits. "Or maybe I'm focusing on Luke, I don't know. The nailpolish may have been a better distraction, sorry."

"I know. I don't think he'd want us to mourn too much," Isabel said. "Maybe drink a beer or some space vodka in his name and clang a banthabell?" She smiling because it's easier to remember happier times.

"Only if it's done at the bowling alley," Aeryn says.

"That's a possibility," she nodded. "Just be prepared, if I drink space vodka? Or even beer? I'll have to hug you again."

"We'll limit your intake," Aeryn promises. "And bring Greg."

"Well the last time? My intake was approximately a tablespoon of a bourbon and coke, I'm not sure how much more we can limit it." Still she smiled, "But I'm sure Greg would be more then willing to deal with me if I'm in a hugging mood."

"I'm sure he will," she says with a little smile. "He'd probably even take a turn at the banthabell."

"Oh god," Isabel said, horrified. "I'll have to drink more then that tablespoon then, just to keep him occupied."

Aeryn smiles. "We'd come up with something," she says. "Out of necessity."

"Come on, you wouldn't want a babbling drunk girl hanging on you?" she grinned, knowing the answer.

"I would already have John doing the same thing without the girl part," Aeryn reminds her.

"You do have a point," Isabel nodded and snickered. "You could always drop the two of us in a corner, we'd entertain one another."

"Of course, that might go against the point of the gathering," she says, but she's smiling. She nods towards the door and says, "I should probably head back."

"Maybe, but I like to think he'd be amused." Isabel nodded and held out the bottle of polish one last time, "You can take this with you. Just in case you get in the mood to paint your nails sunfire."

Against her better judgment, Aeryn takes it. It'll show up on Johnina first, probably. "Doubtful, but. Good night," she says, and heads out the door.
