Room 406, Very late Monday night - NFB

Late Monday night found Isabel sound asleep, curled around her pillow, with Annie nestled against her feet.

"What happened?" she asked glancing at her phone to see if the incoming number was listed. "Do you need anything? Are you hurt?"

Bridge had done a good job with Jarod's phone--it was completely untraceable. "I saw my mother and sister--for all of a minute. And then they were gone."

"Oh god, Jarod..." Isabel sighed. "I'm sorry. It wasn't safe?"

"They were followed," Jarod rubbed between his eyebrows. "Somehow, someone knew where they would be."

"Damn." Isabel leaned back against her pillow. "I'm sorry, I know how much finding them meant to you. But if you found them once? Maybe you can find them again?"

Jarod's voice broke, but he told himself it was just from exhaustion. "I don't know where to look."

"They'll be looking for you," she said, wishing she could reach through the phone and give Jarod a hug. "I'm sure they want to find you, just as much as you want to find them."

"I hope so," he said quietly. "Anyway, I should let you sleep."

"No," Isabel replied. "I'm awake now. Tell me what you've been doing. And even though I'm not yelling, I am mad that you left without saying goodbye."

"I wasn't in any shape to talk to anyone," Jarod apologized, wincing as he remembered the fight he'd had with Jack. "I went skydiving--it was something I'd always wanted to do, plus it kept my mind off waiting for today."

"I figured," she said, nodding even though Jarod couldn't see her. "I was worried about you. But skydiving? How was it? Was it what you expected?"

"I'm sorry. I'm...not used to having people to worry." He smiled, "It was amazing. Life affirming."

"Well get used to it," Isabel said with a small smile. "Life affirming? I'm not sure that's the word I'd used. Nuts might be a better choice. I like my feet on the ground."

"The sky runs by, and it's nothing but you and gravity," he murmured. "It's the closest I'll ever be to flying."

"I don't know, if you come back to Fandom there's always a chance you'd be turned into a duck one day," she pointed out. "But seriously? I'm glad you had a chance to do it. What else are you planning?"

He smirked. Isabel was definitely as smart as he'd always thought. "I don't know yet. Kind of spur of the moment these days."

"You should head out to Roswell," Isabel said. "There's a place out in the desert, when there's a new moon, it's so dark you can see a million stars. They're so close you can almost reach out and touch them. Michael or Max would show you." She laughed softly. "I know it's not quite the same as skydiving. But I bet you've never seen starts like that."

"No, I bet I haven't," he mused quietly. "Any messages you want me to pass on if I happen to find myself out there?"

Isabel paused, trying to figure out what to say. Things with Max had been strained ever since the disasterous camping trip and Michael was Michael. It was only because of Maria's frequent emails that she knew anything that was going on. "Just tell them I said hi. And to show you a good time. But can you do me a favor? Don't let them know you know about the alien stuff. They'd freak."

"I can definitely do that, or not do that, as the case may be," he smiled. "And how are things going there? No invasions, I hope?"

"We just had Homecoming weekend. With everything in black & white and we dressed like it was the 1950's," Isabel said, her voice amused. "I wore tulle! Greg's hair was flat. It was horrible."

Jarod grinned at the mental image he got from Isabel's description, but quickly quashed the accompanying picture he got of Parker similarly attired. "Is there a picture? I'd love to see it. And is he still treating you well?"

"There are pictures," she admitted. "Although I'm debating burning them and using the CD with the files as a frisbee. If you have an email I can send them to you." Isabel smiled at his question about Greg. "And he's treating me like a princess."

"Don't burn them," Jarod said quickly, "and I'll see what I can do about getting you an e-mail address. And he better, or he'll have me to deal with."

"Okay, I won't burn them," Isabel promised. "I'll just hide them in very bottom of my desk drawer and try not to think about them. As for email, I think you should sign up for a yahoo mail account with the name OMG I love Johnny Depp. All one word of course."
