Room 406, evening

Warm cat curled up on her feet, plate of brownies and a glass of milk on the table next to her, and Isabel sat back with her book and relaxed.

So far it had been a perfectly wonderful and relaxing break. There'd been mocking of the beautiful and famous, an unexpected return, hanging out with friends and lots of snow. Aside from tomorrow night's trip with Parker, Isabel planned on doing more of the same till her first class on Tuesday.

The music was playing and the door was open.

"Nope, I am demoused thanks to the magic of coffee beans." Jack flopped down next to her, half sprawling across her, and held out the ice cream. "I even brought spoons. Two of them."

Isabel ruffled his hair then took the ice cream, digging in happily. "You are wonderful. I was in the mood for a snack but I was too lazy to go get one."

"I am, aren't I?" He grinned, nudging her over slightly so he could snuggle down and use her thigh as a pillow. "Wonderful. And don't forget sexy and adorable."

"All of that and more," she said, smiling down at him as she licked ice cream from her lip. "And can I just say that I scared myself with how well I understood mouse you?"

"You were brilliant," he told her, reaching up to snag a spoonful of ice cream. "Though I think you know me way too well."

Isabel handed over the spoonful of ice cream in her hand. "I am. And I do. It's scary at times. So what have you been up to since you've been de-moused?"

"Mostly making full use of these," he stuck the spoon in his mouth and waved his hands, "and enjoying being able to reach things," he finished once he'd swallowed the ice cream. "Tonight I took River out for dinner and dancing. And ice cream." Jack nodded at the pint in Isabel's hands. "Which we didn't finish."

"Notice me not asking what you used your hands for," she chuckled. "You did did you? Did you have fun?"

"Probably a bit too much," he confessed. "But it made her happy, and that's what's important. But you!" Jack pointed the spoon at her accusingly. "You didn't tell me you were part of Parker's little Friday night jaunt." His attempt to scowl wasn't very effective, but at least he tried.

"Oh?" Isabel asked, eyebrow raised. "Should I ask how much is too much?"

Looking away and trying to look innocent, she shrugged. "I didn't want to make a big deal about it."

"Probably not," he replied, then poked his spoon at her again. "You mean you didn't want me to fuss. But you're safe." He flipped the spoon end over end and offered it back to her, handle first. "Cedric's coming, too. I already did the overprotective thing with him."

"Possibly," she admitted sheepishly as she took the spoon, dipping it into the container. "Is he? Oh this could be interesting then. They won't know what's going on."

Jack smiled a smile that said: I knew it!, but didn't say anything else on the subject. "Nope. Having the two of you there will grant confusion to our enemies, and success to us. Just, be careful." He lifted his hand to brush against her cheek. "Okay?"

Isabel leaned into his hand and gave him a wry smile. "Trust me, I will. I have not desire to play lab rat."

"Not a chance." He cupped her chin, brushing his thumb in long sweeps across her cheek. "That's not going to happen."

"I know," she said slowly. "I know the only reason that Parker asked me was because it was safe enough. I know it's why she didn't ask me the last time she went looking for something."

"And I wouldn't have asked Cedric if I didn't trust Parker to know it was safe. Well," he amended, letting his hand fall and settling his head more comfortably in her lap, "safe enough. Parker and I may not have powers, but we'll both be armed. Anyone trying to take either of you won't last very long."

"I know. And thank you for that." Smiling, Isabel leaned down and dropped a kiss on his forehead. "And also thank you for not flipping out that I'm going."

"You're welcome," he said, eyes half closing as he grinned up at her. "I just don't want ice cream dumped on my head."

"But just think? If I dump ice cream on you? However would you get clean?" she teased, eyes sparkling.

Jack groaned and threw his arm across his eyes at the immediate mental image. "Oh, Izzy," he groaned, peeking out from under his arm and eyeing the carton in her hands a little too speculatively. "Don't tease. You, me, a pint of melty ice cream? That is way too tempting right now." There was amusement lurking in his eyes, though, as he looked up at her.

Isabel took another bite of ice cream, deliberately licking the spoon clean. Then she grinned down at him. "Well, sadly? That was the last bite."

Jack groaned again and snatched container and spoon out of her hands, dropping them over the side of the bed. "You," he said, slow and measured. "Are evil. And you're going to have to pay." Quick as a flash, he surged to his knees, grabbed her around the waist, smiling wickedly as he pinned her to the bed, straddling her legs with his hands on her shoulders.

"Oh really?" Isabel asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked up at him smugly. "What price?"

He dipped his head, stopping with his mouth just above hers, and whispered, "I'll show you." Hands trailing slowly from her shoulders down her sides, he curved them around her waist, fingers pressing gently against her ribs.

Which he promptly tickled, without mercy.
