After the Perk, Isabel returned to her room, made a few handwavey phone calls and then tried to pack. If you can call randomly taking things in and out of drawers packing. Annie sat on the bed watching her, seeming to sense something was going on.

The door was cracked open.

"Good," Isabel nodded. "You don't deserve that. At all. And if he gives you a hard time? Tell Parker. She'll show him a really hard time."

Anders laughed. "I'd feel sorry for him, in that case. Damn, Evans, I'm gonna miss you."

"Oh trust me," she said, walking over and opening her arms to invite a hug. "I'm going to miss you to. Lots."

Anders hugged her, hard. "This sucks," he murmured, "but I'm proud of you for going, anyway. Just take care of yourself, will you?"

"I'll do my best," she promised, hugging him back equally as hard. "And you be good. And practice hard. And be the best pyramid player ever. Okay?"

Anders was not going to cry. He was not going to cry. He was not -- dammit.

"Promise," he told her. "I think I'm done with my share of daring rescues. Besides, I'm gonna need to do something to work off all this energy that is so not mine."

"Yeah, give some other people the chance to play hero," Isabel tried to tease. "And energy that's not yours? Do I want to know?"

Anders turned a brilliant shade of red. "Um, I think the spell we used to take us to where Bel was had some interesting side effects."

It took a moment for Isabel to connect all the pieces together, then she laughed for the first time since the diner in Bridgeport. "Suddenly I'm very glad I wasn't in on that rescue. Cause that's way too much information to have about a friend."

"Especially if you're me," Anders said pitifully. "Parker had to get me ice cubes last night, and that was only the beginning of it."

"Anders, now I have TMI about both you and Bel," she facepalmed.

That didn't help Anders's facial redness much. "Oh, frak, sorry, sorry!"

"S'okay, it's just one more way to remember the weirdness of this place," Isabel said with a sigh.

"Not the lasting impression of me I wanted you to go away with." Anders smiled crookedly at her.

"Trust me, I have plenty of other memories to choose from," she promised. "You'll tell Bel I'm glad he's back?"

"'course I will," Anders said. "If he's not so pissed at me, I don't get a chance to, anyway."

"He'll get over it. You guys are friends, that's what matters."

Anders smiled. "Who's gonna talk sense into me in a non-painful way with you gone, huh?" he asked, his voice cracking just a little.

"Parker will look out for you. You know it," Isabel promised. "Of course it could get painful but that's only if you don't think."

Anders gave her the Look. "In other words, it's going to be painful sometimes, no matter what."

She flashed him a wry smile. "Pretty much, yeah."

"That's life, I guess," Anders said with a playful sigh. "Don't worry, I promise I'll take my thwacks when I deserve 'em, and learn from them."

"That's all that I can ask," Isabel said quietly.

"I do have one thing to ask." Anders sobered and looked at her intently. "Take care of yourself? Please?"

"I'll do my best. And who knows, maybe I'll turn up on Caprica to see you play one day. It's a big universe," she said, attempting a smile. "Anything can happen."
