Room 406, Friday morning through afternoon

It had been a long, wet walk back up from the causeway and Isabel was grateful to get out of the rain by the time the reached the dorms. Her key was gone, left somewhere back on Antar, so she used her powers to open the door. Stepping inside the room, Isabel looked around and blinked a lot, not quite able to believe she was really back.

"And this just happened? For no reason?" Isabel prompted.

"No, there was a reason," he said but stopped there. Because he was a dork.

"Don't make me hurt you," she said dryly. Isabel wiggled the fingers of her free hand at him. "Or even worse, tickle you till you tell me what's going."

"He asked me about sharing the night you left," he said quietly.

It took a moment for Isabel to realize what Cedric meant, then she slowly banged her head against the wall. "Thank you for not turning him into something small and slimy." She stopped banging her head and shifted a bit to lean against his shoulder. "I'm sorry."

He shrugged and, again, tried to look as nonchalant as he could manage. It wasn't working well. "I sent him away because I wanted to be alone after that."

"That's completely understandable," Isabel said quietly. "You're not alone now though."

"I know," he said, closing his eyes briefly. "It...I didn't expect it and it came at a low point for me. And it hurt."

"I can't even imagine."

Isabel was going to kill Jack. Not so much for asking, because he was Jack and she knew it was probably inevitable that someone else would eventually catch his eye. But the timing could not have been worse.

"What do you want to do now?"

"I don't know," he admitted. "I told Sam I wasn't used to this sort of feeling. It was new and sharp for me."

"Then take your time and figure it out," she said quietly, all the while thinking there wasn't that much time left. Nine, no, eight weeks till graduation. "I know he didn't do deliberately though. He would never intentionally hurt you like that."

"I know he wouldn't," Cedric answered. "I know."

"But it doesn't make it hurt any less." Closing her eyes, Isabel wondered how much she should interfere.

He shrugged once. "I'll be all right, I'm sure."

"Of course you will," she said, peering at him sideways. "You're strong. One of the strongest people I know."

He smiled at that and said, "The feeling on that particular subject is very mutual."

"I'm not. Not really," Isabel replied, remembering how tired and worn down she'd gotten before finally agreeing to Kivar's demands. Abruptly she forced a smile of her own. "Stay and watch a movie? I think we both could use some company."

[And now I flee! Back about 7:30 tonight]

He didn't like hearing those words but didn't press. Not now. "Of course. I could use a good movie right about now."

Isabel gave him a look that clearly said thanks for humoring her, and went off to set up the laptop. Two minutes later she was back, settling comfortably against the wall. "I missed downtime like this. We never really had much of it."

"Too many classes," he said, thinking that perfectly logical explanation.

"Yeah, too many classes. But it's a wet, dreary Friday and I'm too tired to even think about going to class, so this is a perfect way to spend some time." She shifted once more as the opening credits started to play.

It's entirely possible to watch a movie through closed eyes. Really.

"You're going to fall asleep, aren't you?" Cedric asked, not sound displeased. He slid an around around her shoulders to keep her from falling over.

"Quite possibly?" Isabel mumbled, resting her head on his shoulder and feeling herself relax for the first time in a very long time. "Is that okay?"

"It's perfectly fine," he said quietly. "Sleep if you need to. I won't leave."

"I'm tired," she admitted, closing her eyes again. Within a minute she was out cold.
