Platypus Living Room - Evening

The number of candles Isabel had burning to light up the living room would probably make a fire marshall nervous but she wasn't about to put them out.

Her laptop battery had run down, so she settled for sitting on the floor and playing solitare the old fashioned way. With a deck of cards.

And Cedric was too busy making sure she was innocent that he TOTALLY missed the jack and scowled at her.

Isabel stuck her tongue out at him. "You have to watch the cards. Not me silly!"

"I'm new to this game," he said and glared at the cards. "Learning curve."

"And it's a very steep one," she teased, flipping another card, not a jack, over.

This time, Cedric did flip a jack over and then threw another card at Isabel to distract her before slapping his hand down on the jack.

"So you're going to be like that are you?" Isabel asked, slooooowly drawing a card off her pile and flipping it over at the last second. It wasn't a jack.

"I didn't hear any rules about distraction," he said and flipped over a queen.

"You're catching on. Oh look! A gremlin!" she grinned as an eight joined the pile.

"Not that easy to distract me," he said and shook his head before dropping a four.

"Oh? You're totally focused on the cards then?" Isabel got ready to flip over another card, just as a tiny, and hopefully discreet hand motion sent a pillow towards the back of Cedric's head.

"Hey!" He looked around, prepared to scowl at the pillow thrower before realizing what had happened and whipping his head back around.

Isabel was trying hard not to laugh. "I believe I promised not to change the cards. Anything else? Totally fair game."

"Not fair!" He got up and retrieved his wand from his alcove. "I can use this then."

Isabel snickered. "In a totally non-dirty fashion? Yes."

"You don't get the dirty," he said with a snicker and flipped a three over.

Do not simultaneously facepalm and flip a card over. It means you miss the jack.

And it means Cedric gets the jack. "Ha!"

"That's only because you were playing dirty," Isabel smirked. And wow, would that be a triple or quadruple meaning of dirty at this point.

Snickering softly, she waited for Cedric to flip his next card.

Cedric flipped a jack and pointed his wand at her. He didn't say anything. He just wanted to see what she'd say.

Isabel didn't say a word, possibly afraid she'd wind up as a sock on the floor. Instead she slapped her hand down on the card. And smiled.

"You're lucky I didn't say anything," he said and frowned. "I could've turned you invisible."

"You wouldn't do that to me would you?" Yes, there were puppy eyes.

"Those don't work when we're competing," he said and set his wand back down.

"Playing serious now?" Isabel was impressed, she focused on the cards as they took turns flipping them over. The number of jacks that came out early in that game meant a substantial pile was builiding up.

She flipped over a six quickly and drew her hand back, ready to slap it down if Cedric threw down the expected Jack.

Cedric threw done a four...and then threw down a six and an eight and a ten. Because why be serious?
