Room 406, Before the dance

After the carnival, Isabel had returned to her room and spent some time getting ready. She was pleased with her dress and hoped that Peter liked it as well.

Annie watched from her perch on the window sill, and Isabel kept a wary eye on her. "I know you want scratches but I'm sorry, I don't feel like cleaning cat fur off my dress. Tomorrow. I promise."

Sitting carefully on the edge of her bed, Isabel started to redo the color of her nails one more time in search of just the perfect shade of soft pink. It kept her from thinking too much while she waited for her date.

"Oh, pretty. You have very awesome taste," she said, holding out her wrist.

"Thought that was clear with who I asked to be my date," Peter said. He took care putting the flowers on.

"You really are turning on the charm tonight." Isabel lifted her wrist up to get a closer look at the flowers. "These are gorgeous. Thank you. Now it's only fair I reciprocate."

From her desk she retrieved a small boutonnière. "For you."

"Here I wasn't expecting anything." Peter held still for her to put it on. "Thanks."

This time Isabel wasn't wielding the pin as a weapon. She attached the flower and then smoothed down Peter's jacket. "Perfect."

Peter held out an arm for her to take. "Shall I escort you to the dance, fair lady?"

Isabel curtsied before taking his arm. "Why thank you kind sir. I shall be delighted to accompany you."

"The irony is I barely know the British one," Peter joked. He then led her off to the dance.
