406, after classes

Monday had been interesting. Isabel was sort of proud she got through it without flailing. But she did and now she was back to focusing on college information, with occasional breaks to stare at her phone and debate what to text to Parker.

The door was open.

Peter had heard radio. Plus there'd been what he'd seen with his own eyes. He wasn't really sure if he wanted to give up denial just yet, but deep down he knew he had to.

So he went to knock on Isabel's door.

"Oh. Hey. Hi," Isabel said, immediately setting her notes aside. "Fun class today huh?"

"Wasn't expecting weapons," Peter admitted. "Least nobody got killed."

"Better weapons then another round of skirts," she shrugged. "And yeah, no death. The one benefit of the danger shop."

"Fandom really does screw with our sense of normal, huh?" Peter said, grinning a little.

"My sense of normal was completely skewed three invasions ago," Isabel replied, returning his grin. "Real normal? Seems very strange to me now."

"I get that." Peter came more into the room. "So how is everything?"

"Okay, mostly," she shrugged. "I had fun catching up with Parker and a few other people over the weekend. And now I'm figuring out college stuff." Because figuring out the rest of her life was a hell of a lot easier then figuring out how to deal with the situation she found herself in.

"Yeah, I uh - I heard you and Parker had a chance to really catch up this weekend," Peter said, hoping that'd provide a good segue.

"We did. It was good to talk to her and get her opinion on stuff," Isabel nodded, focusing on shuffling the papers she'd set aside. "It's not the same when we talk on the phone."

"Stuff like Wyatt?" Peter asked, not without sympathy.

Isabel opened her mouth to say...something resembling no, then closed it and sighed. "Yeah. Like Wyatt."

"Saw you two dancing together," Peter said. He shrugged. "Looked like you were having a good time."

Oh. "Yeah. It was nice."

Those papers were really interesting.

"Seems like a nice guy." Another shrug. "From what I've heard."

"He is." Isabel put the papers to the side again and forced herself to look at Peter. "You're wondering what's going on?"

Peter nodded.

"The thing is I don't know," she admitted. "But I think I might want to find out."

Peter had suspected as much. He took a step back. "Well - I wish you luck with it."

"Peter, I'm sorry. This wasn't..." Isabel shrugged, trying to figure out a way to explain how it happened. "The weekend sort of opened my eyes."

"You should be with who you want to be with," Peter said. "I don't wanna be the guy standing in the way of that."

"I never wanted to put you in that position." Another shrug, because there really weren't any words that didn't sound trite.

"I know," Peter said. And this would be another step back. "Still friends?"

"Absolutely," Isabel replied instantly.

Peter gave her a small smile. "Good. I'm glad."

She returned the smile, still feeling guilty. "Me to."

Peter didn't feel guilt so much as that he was running out of time on being able to chit chat while acting like none of this was bothering him.

"I gotta get back," Peter said, indicating his room. "Promised Mac I'd help her with a thing."

Which was a total lie, but he figured Mac would forgive him.

"Then don't let me keep you," Isabel replied, resisting the urge to keep apologizing. "But don't be a stranger, okay?"

"Can't imagine how that would be possible," Peter said. He gave her a smile, then headed out.

She watched him leave before dropping her head back and closing her eyes.
