Room 406, Evening

Since they were going to be dressed up at the dance on Friday, Isabel & Wyatt had decided to have a quiet Valentine's night in. Dinner first, then movies, and more likely, some quality time together. Isabel couldn't think of a better way to spend the night.

After work and a stop at Ching Tai, she set up a makeshift picnic on the floor and lit some candles, smiling once more at the flowers she'd gotten that morning.

Now all she needed was a boyfriend shaped person.

"No, no, no," she said, waving her finger. "Dinner first. Then dessert,"

Wyatt made a pouty face, then settled on the floor. "Nice spread," he said.

"Watch that lip, you might trip," Isabel laughed, taking a seat next to him. "It's the best Ching Tai has to offer."

"The company makes any food taste good," Wyatt said shamelessly.

Grinning, Isabel helped herself to a dumpling. "That and extra dipping sauce."

Wyatt snagged a crab rangoon. "That too," he agreed.

"It's the simple things in life," she agreed. "I mean really, who needs fancy dresses and dances? Tomorrow night? I should stay home and do my nails or something."

Wyatt sighed. "Guess I'll just have to go alone then," he said.

Funny how quickly she could change her mind. Even if she was only joking in the first place. "I suppose I could go. Just so you won't be lonely. I wouldn't want to see you spend the whole night in the snark corner." Not that Isabel thought that would happen.

"I don't know," Wyatt mused. "I suppose I could always ask Meg to dance. Or Summer."

"And I'm sure they'd dance with you. But then they'd have to go back to their boyfriends," Isabel pointed out.

"I'm pretty irresistible though," Wyatt argued.

"I could resist you," she said, purposely moving away. "If I had to."

Out came the sad face again. "Then I'd have to return all these presents," he said.

Oh no! Sad face! Isabel moved back, bumping her knee against Wyatt's. "At the risk of sounding incredibly sapping? I don't need presents. I've got you."

"Well, damn, I could've saved all my money and just wrapped a bow around myself," Wyatt said. "Seriously, I hate shopping, but I love shopping for you."

"I might have been interested in seeing where you put the bow." Once again, she looked towards the gifts on the bed. "But seriously you spoil me."

"Uh huh," Wyatt said. "My grandpa raised me well."

On the bed was a pink bag that Wyatt made sure was sitting up right when he set it down; a brown box, a slightly larger gold box, and a third gold box, stacked together and tied with a red bow; a big cardboard box with holes cut into the sides; a small black velvet bag; and finally a flat box wrapped in red paper.

"One of these days I'm really going to have to thank him for doing such a good job," Isabel smiled. Finally deciding she couldn't take the suspense any longer, she set her plate down and and went to her closet to rummage about, before returning with a stack of brightly wrapped boxes. "Did you get your flowers this morning?"

"Yes, I did," Wyatt said, smiling at Isabel. "I got one from Chris, too, and I'm going to have to kick his ass for it," he added. He inclined his head toward the pink bag on the bed. "Your flowers are in there. I wanted to get something special."

"Do I even want to know?" she asked, peering into the bag, she was pretty sure held the flowers. "Oh! Those are lovely! And I love the daisies like that. They're so cheerful."

Isabel set Wyatt's gifts down next to him and returned to her own gifts. "I'll reheat dinner. I'm impatient." First she took out the flowers, setting them in a place of honor on her desk. "They really are gorgeous." Then she checked out the stack of boxes. "Okay, we might have a change in plans for desert."

"Check out the one at the top," Wyatt said. "I searched high and low for those special treats." He unwrapped the sun pendant. "Ooh, shiny," he said. "Does this mean I light up your life?"

"These are awesome. I'm going to have to hide them from Ronan otherwise he'll be looking to steal them."

"That's part of it. The other part? Well I have a special fondess for right there," she explained, reaching over to brush a finger over the hollow of his throat. "And I think that compliments it nicely." And will be a lovely distraction in class but she'd never mention that.

Wyatt grinned and started to tie the necklace around his neck. "Then I'd better start wearing it now," he said.

"It suits you," Isabel smiled. "Perfectly."

Lifting the large box into her lap, she listened carefully. "The holes are just for show right? Nothing's alive in there?"
