Room 406, afternoon

She'd needed last night, Isabel realized. After everything that had happened, she needed a night of being quiet and feeling safe.

Eventually she'd made it back to her room. After a shower, she'd called her mom, feigning surprise at the news of the destruction of the Meta-Chem, and quickly changing the subject to the cleaning supplies that were currently working busily around the room.

"I know mom," she said eventually. "Yes, we'll be out for dinner soon. I promise. Bye." Isabel hung up her phone and opened her laptop. Solitaire would be a good way to not think for the afternoon.

[Door closed, post is open! And I'm about to go AFK till about 7 EST. I'll grab pings when I get back. And I'm back!!!]

"Yeah. I'm fine," she promised. It was mostly the truth, physically at least. "You have to love the alien weirdness."

Chris nodded. "I'm just glad we got you back."

"I'm glad to be back," Isabel said with a weak smile. "Although I would have much rather never left. Sorry about that."

"I'm sorry the scrying didn't work sooner," Chris said.

"You got there. And you Meg out." Which was important to Isabel. She still felt incredibly guilty that Meg got caught up in the alien weirdness.

Chris shrugged. "Wasn't good enough. It shouldn't have taken us so long to find you guys."

"What happened? Why did it take so long?" she asked. "Remember I'm new at this magic stuff."

"I'm not sure," Chris admitted. "Were you drugged or unconscious? That might have kept the scrying from working."

Unconsciously Isabel rubbed her arm. "Yeah, they got us with something. The last I remember is the parking lot. Then we woke up in an office."

Chris nodded. "That might have done it."

"I'm hoping there won't be a next time. But if there is, I'll try to avoid the sedatives." As far as jokes went, it was gallows humor at it's worse.

"There won't be a next time," Chris said. He was very determined about keeping the people he cared about safe.

"Unfortunately it's a fact of life I have to face. It's not the first time one of us has been grabbed," Isabel replied. "I've gotten too comfortable here. I forget what the real world is like."

Chris nodded. "Well, you're not the only person who has to deal with that."

"True enough," she nodded. "I went on a rescue mission to save your Aunt Phoebe when she got taken by Bel's mom. So I guess it winds up being a fact of life for you guys as well."

"I suspect it will be," Chris said. "But somehow it all works out in the end. And it's good to know that we all have each other's backs."

"Definitely."

Isabel bit her lip, last night's conversation still on her mind. "Wyatt didn't handle it well did he?"

Chris took a deep breath and shook his head. "Not so much. He... went a little crazy. I ended up knocking him out and orbing everyone back here."

"That's what he said," she nodded. "I'm glad Peter and Sam were able to give you a little hope. Otherwise, I don't know what he would ahve done."

"I don't know what any of us would have done," Chris said quietly.

"You would have gone on and lived your life," Isabel said. "Otherwise I would have had to come back and haunt you."

"It wouldn't have been the same," Chris said. "And I don't think Wyatt would have rested until he punished every single person who hurt you."

She shuddered slightly, thinking of Clayton. "It was only one person really. The rest were just hired muscle."

Chris shrugged. "Doesn't matter. They still hurt you. If any of them are alive, we may still need to take care of them."

"It's not going to be a problem," Isabel replied, shaking her head. "Trust me."
