The Halliwell Manor, Saturday morning

After spending the week worrying about Savannah and trying to get a particularly annoying paper done, Isabel was thrilled when Wyatt invited her to spend the weekend in San Francisco.

Taking advantage of his grandfather being out of town to have a few days to themselves? Never...

After a late night, Isabel was still half asleep when she climbed out of bed, pulled on one of Wyatt's t-shirts, and quietly went in search of the coffee maker, wondering if Wyatt would enjoy breakfast in bed.

"I'd miss chocolate. And Tabasco," she replied, heading out the door and down the stairs. "So you haven't been a vampire for all that long?"

Isabel kept glancing over her shoulder, just to make sure he didn't try anything.

Fork was behaving, for now. He shrugged. "About a year or so, I guess. You lose track of time."

She continued moving ahead of him, closing blinds or curtains where she could. Accidentally setting her boyfriend's doppelganger on fire was probably a bad thing.

"Just a year? Angel's over a hundred."

He appreciated that, he really did. But he was distracted from her statement when he caught sight of a picture of Wyatt and Chris hanging on the wall. "What the hell...?"

"I know. You look just like him," Isabel said, perching on the back of couch. "It's weird."

"That's your boyfriend?" Fork said. "Why the hell does he look just like me?"

"Why do you look like him?" she countered, unable to not be amused. It was just like newbie day back in Fandom, watching their poor little brains break.

"I'm better looking," Fork insisted, though he hadn't seen his own reflection in quite some time. "He's too . . . curly."

Isabel was indignant on Wyatt's behalf. "I happen to like the curls thank you very much."

"Why don't you try a hands on comparison," Fork said, leer returning. "You might be surprised."

"You're persistent aren't you?" she sighed. "Once again, no. I'll pass."

"You remind me of my ex," Fork said. "Blonde and stubborn."

"You say that like it's a bad thing."

Hoping Wyatt's grandfather wouldn't mind her rooting around in his kitchen, Isabel set about making a real breakfast. And lots of coffee because she had a feeling she wasn't going to sleep for the next two days.

"What happened to her?"

Fork leaned against the wall and watched her get to work. "She decided we should break up when I became a vampire," he said. "Vampire, vampire hunter, these things just don't work out."

"No, I can see where the world views would conflict just a little," Isabel agreed. "Although if you really wanted to, you could make it work."

Yes, she was trying to give relationship advice to a vampire.

"She doesn't see it that way," Fork said flatly. "She wants to save me, or failing that, kill me."

"Have you given her any reason to think differently?" she asked. "Or did you just try to make her dinner?"

"I wouldn't kill her," Fork said. Well, unless his master ordered it. "I wanted her to join us."

Some say po-ta-to, others say po-tah-to. "But you wanted to make her a vampire. Isn't that the same thing?"

"Undead isn't the same as dead," Fork said. "Besides, then other vampires would stop trying to kill her. She'd be safer."

"She'd be dead," Isabel pointed out. "She wouldn't get to see the sunrise, or to enjoy a piece of chocolate. Her life would be over."

"Her life is going to be over soon anyway," Fork countered. "Vampire hunters don't live long. I'm proof of that."

That was enough to make her pause for a moment, feeling a wave of sympathy for his girlfriend. "I'm sorry."

Fork shrugged. "This is what I am now," he said. "And I like it."

"But it's wrong," Isabel started to say, before stopping herself abruptly. "I'm sorry. Difference in worldview. And I don't think either one of us is going to change the other's mind in the next two days."

And if they kept up the conversation, she was probably going to wind up depressed. The potential parallels were too scary.

"Dammit, I actually miss Christian."
