Room 406, Late Monday Afternoon

After Interstellar Relations, Isabel returned to her room, booted up the laptop and started to surf through political blogs in preparation for Wednesday's Political Campaigning class. Occasionally she needed to move Annie when she tried to curl up on the laptop keyboard.

The door was open.

After Interstellar Relations, and more time spent in her room than was good for her state of mind, Parker wandered upstairs, looking for people to bother.

Oh look, an open door.

"Hey, Gemenon. How goes the war?"

"I have one of my own to worry about," Isabel said, making a face. "I can't get involved in any others. It is an interesting class though."

"Too true." Parker sprawled at the end of her bed, hands folded across her stomach, and looked thoughtful. "Still. I'm still thinking I don't want to go into politics. But I really, really need to find people who do, and figure out ways to get them to take the job. Aside from Liz, of course." She angled her head toward Isabel. "How was the rest of your day? Is Annie around?"

"I'm interested in it in a theoretical sense, but as a career? No way," she said, shaking her head. "It's been pretty mellow. I helped Luke learn how to move things using the Force which was kind of wierd. I mean it was only a few weeks Anakin was offering to teach me stuff." Annie chose that moment to stalk over and investigate Parker.

"How's he doing?" Parker asked idely, waving her Vamp-colored nails teasingly in Annie's direction. "Any talent? Or is he flailing in the dark?"

"He's got talent. It's just a matter of tapping into it and learning how to use it. He was sending paper balls around the room for Annie to chase," Isabel smiled, sending on of the balls bouncing towards Annie. "So it's a good start. I'm glad I was able to help."

Parker grinned, watching the kitten attack the ball, and then her smile faded a bit. "How well do cats do on their own? I mean. Is it okay to just check on them every other day? Or is once a day a good idea?"

"I'd say once a day, but that's only because I'm obsessive," she grinned. "Why? Did Jarod have to go on a trip?"

"Apparently." Parker kept her eyes on Annie, and her voice level. "I went by yesterday, and M had enough food to last her a few days, at least. Maybe a little longer."

"He didn't tell you? Well that was rude," Isabel said, trying to keep her voice light. "He'd better come back with flowers, chocolates and a damn good reason."

"Assuming he comes back." Parker sat up, eyes closed, shaking her head. "Forget I said that. I'm being alarmist."

Isabel hasn't had the same thought, really. Especially after last week's conversation. "You are. I'm sure there's a logical reason for it. And he'll tell you when you get back."

"I just wish he'd call back," Parker said quietly, finally looking at Isabel. "I would even promise not to yell for taking off without telling me. I just want to know he's okay. That he's not in jail or the hospital or... something."

She's spent more time then she likes to think about worrying about Michael when he's gone off on one of his quests for the truth so Isabel understands exactly how Parker feels. "I know. It's the not knowing that's the worse."

Parker got up to pace, then scooped up Annie, smiling, albeit not convincingly. "He'll be fine. It'll be okay. He's a genius. Whatever he's doing, he'll figure it out, and come back with a story to tell." She snuggled Annie, and the cat batted at her earrings. "And then I get to kill him."

"Exactly," Isabel nodded. "And I'll thwap him afterwards. He's going to be fine Parker."

"Yeah." Very quietly. Parker wander back over to the bed, holding Annie up over her head for a moment, dangling and mewing. "So, congrats on StuCo, which can't be crazier than class was today, give it that. How's your crazy boyfriend?"

Isabel smiled ruefully, recognizing Parker's desire for distraction. She'd done it herself often enough. "Thanks, I think it's going to fun. Although I have to figure out what we're going to do this semester. Maybe another game night. But I'm not sure I'm up for that kind of insanity." She looked down and smiled fondly. "And the crazy boyfriend is crazy as always. He gave Luke a faux mohawk the other day. Can I ask you something?"

Parker snickered at *that* mental image, and said, "Sure. What?" Annie was allowed to reassume paws-on-the-coverlet position, and Parker leaned back again, watching her wash her front leg.

"You realize it'll be four months this weekend?" Isabel asked, focusing on Annie.

"For you and Greg?" Parker grinned, pushing thoughts of six months aside. "Cool. And you were worried it wouldn't go any further."

"Yup," she smiled and then blushed. "See that's the thing, now I'm thinking about going further."

"Ohhhh." Parker gave Isabel a bright-eyed look. "Really. How much further are we talking about taking your Volkswagen?"

"A test drive," she said meekly, looking everywhere but at Parker.

Parker grinned, but managed not to snicker. "I see. Sooo. Got any particular destination in mind? Or length of drive?" She batted one foot at Isabel, and her voice softened a bit. "Laid in supplies? But most importantly, are you sure?"
