Isabel sat on her bed writing an email to her parents explaining why she wasn't going home for the holidays. Doing it by email felt like cheating, but at least her mom wouldn't be able to make her feel guilty like she would have if they talked on the phone.

As she typed, she sipped at a peppermint mocha. There's a second mocha and a box of assorted pastries from J,GoB sitting on the desk, (next to a print out of a newspaper article she's trying not to think about) all part of the lure she'd mentioned when she left a message last night.

Occasionally Isabel would glance at the open doorway expectantly.

[The mocha is for [livejournal.com profile] chasingsnitches but anyone else is welcome to stop by for a doughnut. Occasional SP due to RL.]

"Thank you," he said, clearly happy with the gift. He reached out to embrace her.

Isabel returned the hug happily. "You're welcome. And I meant it when I said I was glad you were home."

"I'm very glad to be home," he said quietly. "Very glad."

She had a feeling that whatever happened, it wasn't pleasant. But he was home and between everyone, they'd help him cope. "So I have a copy of metaed How the Grinch Stole Christmas, it's short, want to hang out for a bit and watch? I really don't feel like studying at the moment."

He frowned at the title, trying to figure out exactly what it meant but he couldn't quite get there. "Yes, I think I'd like that."

"You've never seen it have you?" Isabel asked as she got the DVD from her desk. She set the laptop up on the chair, loaded the DVD and started it playing before taking a seat back on the bed. "It's a Christmas classic."

"I've never seen it before," he confirmed, turning his attention to the screen. "I'm missing out."

"You are. This is something that has to be fixed," she said, nodding seriously. Pulling the extra pillow out from behind her, she tossed it to Cedric. "Here, make yourself comfortable and enjoy."

Suddenly Boris Karloff's voice came from the speakers -

Every Who
Down in Who-ville
Liked Christmas a lot...

But the Grinch,
Who lived just North of Who-ville,
Did NOT!

He sat back, not taking his eyes from the screen and watched with rapt attention.

Isabel wasn't sure what she enjoyed more. The movie which had been a favorite ever since her parents showed it to her, her very first Christmas, or watching Cedric's reaction to the movie. All she knew was that life was good.
