Getting up on a cold winter morning was difficult, it was especially difficult when someone was snuggled up to you. But duty called.

Isabel opened the library on time, her usual mocha in hand.

Lucas came in, laptop bag slung over his shoulder, to pass the time between classes. "Isabel, hi. I didn't know you did the whole library...thing." She really didn't look like a library geek.

"Hi Lucas," she waved, closing the book with a sigh. "I work here one day a week. Usually I do homework or whatever. But today is research day."

"I wish. A friend's been possessed by the Source of All Evil. I'm trying to figure out a way to save his ass," she explained. "Mostly so that then I can kill him for getting himself possessed in the first place."

After a brief 'WTF?' moment, Lucas replied. "Possession doesn't sound like something someone can really stop."

Isabel noticed the WTF moment and smiled. "Welcome to Fandom, where things that seem like the plots of bad horror movies happen on a regular basis. You might be right though. Maybe we can't stop it. But I'm not willing to just write Bel off. I've got to look."

"No slasher movies though, right?" Lucas had priorities.

"Well actually...that was last summer," Isabel said, remembering the Gentlemen. "Some demons came in, stole everyone's voices and then tried to take some people's hearts. They almost got one of my good friends."

There was that staring, slack jaw look again. "Okay!" Lucas said after a moment. "So research. What are you looking for?"

"I wish I knew. This isn't anything I'm used to dealing with," she admitted. "And it doesn't help that half of the stuff is written in languages I don't know. I'm mostly just flipping through, looking at pictures and occasionally attempting to translate stuff."

"Do you know which language it's in, or is that what you're trying to work out?" Lucas sounded like he had an idea.

"I think it might be Sumerian. But for all I know I could be the scribbling of a demented lemur," Isabel shrugged helplessly.

[Yay! Of course he can nudge all he'd like since there's really nothing to be found. This is my girl fussing for the sake of fussing.]

"Well I can't read Sumerian, but there's a program that can. All we have to do is scan the page into the computer, run the page through the language recognition program and the program should be able to identify, or at least narrow down, the written language. I don't have a translation program on here that handles dead languages, but considering the weird factor around here there's probably someone who's fluent in it. A teacher maybe?"

"That might work, although I'm a bit leery of scanning something without knowing what it is," she said. "My old roommate told me a story about how one of his friends scanned something and wound up releasing a demon onto the internet."

It took Lucas a second to realize that Isabel wasn't joking. "Okay, let's not do that. This is going to sound weird coming from me, at least it'll sound weird to me coming from me, but do you have any books on Sumerian language? We could maybe compare the alphabet with your book."

"Yeah, I think we've got enough to worry about at the moment," Isabel agreed as she checked the online card catalog. "It looks like there might be something in that aisle. Let's see what we can find." Without waiting, Isabel headed off into the stacks.

Lucas followed after Isabel, bag still slung over his shoulder. "Can we scan any of these without unleashing evil on the internex?"

"Maybe? I suppose if we can translate a few words, at least enough to make sure that demonic evil isn't bound to the page, I suppose we'll be okay." If not, Isabel wondered if Mr. Winchester would know how to hunt demons online. Literally.

"Okay. Never had to deal with virtual demons, so I'm a little new to this." He started running his finger along the line of books.
