Room 406, morning

After staying up late for charades the night before, Isabel had slept in late, planning on spending a lazy day doing homework and some reading. She was not going to think about where she was going tomorrow night. Nor was she going to watch the clock and worry about friends that were off planet at the moment.

Company would help with that, so Isabel made a quick trip to town and then a stop down the hall. Anyone wandering by would find Isabel and Cedric sharing bagels and coffee while watching Annie stalk about the room.

"That sounds great," Cedric said, pausing when the phone rang.

"Excuse me," she said, holding out her hand for the phone to fly into it. "Mom usually calls around now." Isabel flipped the phone open and stared at the caller I.D. "It's Parker."

Cedric quieted and watched intently.

Isabel kept the conversation short, glancing at Cedric and biting her lip.

And that made Cedric stand up.

She was climbing to her feet as she snapped the phone shut. "Jack's hurt, he's at the clinic. It's not life-threatening," she added.

Cedric winced and said, "Of course. Magnet for trouble."

Grabbing her jacket, Isabel started for the door. "I say we let him heal for a few days then beat him."

"I think I very much agree with that plan of action," Cedric said, following her out of the room.
