Room 406, late morning til evening.

After the Perk, Isabel returned to her room, made a few handwavey phone calls and then tried to pack. If you can call randomly taking things in and out of drawers packing. Annie sat on the bed watching her, seeming to sense something was going on.

The door was cracked open.

Cedric came down the hall and knocked on the cracked door.

Head buried in her closet as she searched for a missing shoe, Isabel sighed and braced herself for another round of goodbye. "Come in."

Cedric slipped inside the room and said, "Hello."

"Hey," Isabel said over her shoulder before diving back in. "I'm just trying to find a shoe."

"Oh." He paused. "Should I come back after you've found it?"

"Screw it. I'll just go barefoot." She sat back and tossed a few of the things that had spilled out of the bottom of the closet back in using a little more force then was probably necessary. "Sorry. I hate packing."

"I guess so," he said, mildly amused. "Are you all right?"

"I'm fine," Isabel said automatically.

"Oh." Cedric looked away and then said, "Can I help in anyway?"

"Thank you," she smiled sadly. "But no. I'm almost done...sort of. It's hard to pack when you don't really know anything about where you're going."

"Hm." He frowned. "Will you be back?"

"I don't know," Isabel said quietly. "Honestly? I don't think so."

He winced. "Will you be safe?"

"Max is their king, Michael's his second in command. I'm sure they'll do whatever they can to protect them, us..."

He nodded again, fairly certain he was supposed to. "I don't know what to do in these situations."

"I'm making it up as I go along," Isabel admitted. "Right now I'm just trying to be the brave little toaster."

"A..." He frowned. "What?"

"It's an old animated movie about a toaster and his friends and being brave in new situations," she explained. "I saw it when I was a kid. It's kind of oddly appropriate right now."

"You're not going to turn into a toaster, are you? Jack the mouse was enough."

Isabel chuckled, "No, I'm just going to be brave and deal with all of this without falling apart."

"If you turned into a toaster, I could hide you in my room and you wouldn't have to go," he suggested.

"This place already has one sentient toaster too many," she chuckled. "So that's probably not a good idea. Although I do appreciate the thought."

"I wish you didn't have to go," he said, finally just coming out with it.

"I wish I could stay," she admitted. "I'm going to miss you."

"I'm going to miss you too," he said, looking down at his feet. "A lot."
