After the Perk, Isabel returned to her room, made a few handwavey phone calls and then tried to pack. If you can call randomly taking things in and out of drawers packing. Annie sat on the bed watching her, seeming to sense something was going on.

The door was cracked open.

"If you turned into a toaster, I could hide you in my room and you wouldn't have to go," he suggested.

"This place already has one sentient toaster too many," she chuckled. "So that's probably not a good idea. Although I do appreciate the thought."

"I wish you didn't have to go," he said, finally just coming out with it.

"I wish I could stay," she admitted. "I'm going to miss you."

Isabel couldn't think of anything to say that wouldn't sound trite, so she walked over and hugged him.

Cedric hugged her back and said, "It won't be the same here. At least, not for me."

"I'm sorry," Isabel said, suddenly realizing that after May Cedric would be on his own.

"I'll learn how to do it myself," he whispered. "Don't be sorry. You're one of my closest friends and I hope you take that knowledge with you."

"I will. Trust me. I'll never forget it." She poked him lightly, "I want you to promise me something."

"Promise you what?"

"I don't know what your plans are for the future. But if you go home. Be careful?" Isabel asked. "I don't want anything to happen to you."

"I'll be careful," he said, reaching out to touch her cheek lightly with his hand. "And you do the same. Take care of yourself, first and foremost."

She's been making that promise a lot today. Hopefully she'd be able to keep it. "I'll do my best."

"I do love you," he said, probably for the first time out loud...also the last.

"Love you to," Isabel said quietly. She'd managed not to cry all day. Until that moment. Quickly she wiped at her eyes.

"I didn't say to make you cry," he said, reaching to hug her again. "I just want you to take that knowledge with you."

"I know. I will, oh god I will." She took a moment to lean against his shoulder. "It's just been a long few days."

"It has," he said and rubbed her back a little. "It'll get better. I promise."

"God I hope so. Because right now things aren't so hot." Isabel took a step back and shrugged. "But I'll deal. It's an adventure right?" The brave little toaster was back.

"You'll be all right," he said, nodding. "I know you will be."

"Yup. And who knows. Maybe someday I'll even make it back." It was a slim hope, but all she could offer. "I'll come looking for you."

"I'll be easy to find, I'm sure," he said. "Just look for my large head."

"You are such a dork," Isabel said, ruffling his hair. "Don't forget to go visit Maurice every once in a while. I don't want to hear that you've tripped because you were doing a shaggy dog impression."

"I promise," he said. He stepped closer for one last hug. "I'll never forget you," he said, cliche be damned.
