Room 406, evening

Isabel had spent the day hiking through the preserve, using the time and the quiet to try and process the events of the last few months. A week with friends had helped and she was finally starting believe that being back wasn't just another elaborate dream.

After returning, Isabel settled down for a quick check of her email before starting her homework. Frowning at Sam's message, she thought for a long moment before typing a response and then leaving a voicemail. Still distracted, she put the laptop aside and tried to focus on her homework.

The door was open.

"Here, have chocolate," Isabel said, offering her the bag. "What are you going to say?"

Dawn took an egg, unwrapped it, and popped it into her mouth. "That he was stupid?"

"That works," she nodded. "Short, succint, and very much to the point."

"Just...gah!" Dawn threw up her hands. "I mean, how can you do that to someone? I get that Alec's dangerous, but come on, he's not more dangerous than most of everyone else here!"

"No, he's not," Isabel agreed. "I mean come on, Bel, Angel when he was here. Me even at this point. He let me paint his fingernails last summer."

She shook her head, remembering the previous year. "Ironically enough? It was this time last year when something similar happened to me."

"What did you do?" Dawn decided not to point out that sitting still for nail polish didn't make you a good person. "Maybe we can just ban mass exposery e-mails in March."

"Honestly? Nothing. There was so much going on then," she replied quietly. "My friend had just died, we'd almost just left and went back to Antar. I was really to numb to react."

"She was a heinous bitch," Isabel said, returning the hug. "Have you heard of the imfamous Rita Skeeter?"

She shook her head. "No. What did she have against you? I mean, you're...Izzy."

She shrugged, "I have no idea. I never even met the woman. I still have no idea how she found out. But she announced it to the whole island over the radio."

"I can hate her a lot for you, if you want," she offered, "because that's maximum suckage, right there."

"It's okay, Xander's Willow was at Hogwarts when this happened and knew of her." Isabel snickered, "She said she went from being a well known reporter to writing ads for wand enlargements on the back of wizarding tabloids."

She snickered. "And that's Willow all over for you."

"It was news I needed to hear. Rita left at the beginning of last summer. She'd been reduced to drunken radio broadcasts. It was beautiful." She smiled at the memory then grew more serious. "I just hope Alec knows that most people here won't hold this against him. I left him a voicemail telling him that."

"I'll call him later," she decided. "And Sam should probably be looking for an alternate universe right about now."

"I asked him, snarkily of course, where he wanted the mob with the pitchforks and torches to show up," Isabel said. "Sadly, they might turn up outside your door. Looking for him. You can stay here if you want to avoid any drama."

"No, I'll be okay, unless the fight gets really bad, in which case you'll find him sleeping in the hall or something," Dawn decided that since he was wrong and Dean probably wouldn't give him a place to stay, that's where he would end up, "he'll be the big, tall dork on the floor.
Feel free to step on him."

"Damn straight, Sam's wrong here. It's not like the email Parker sent out about Bel, where he was an immediate danger to everyone. Alec hasn't done anything that I could say is wrong," Isabel nodded, possibly considering a late night walk through the halls. "Well unless being too damn pretty is a crime. But there were definitely better ways to handle this. So if I see him? I'll step, possibly while wearing my boots."

"Sam has Alec issues," Dawn sighed, "and are the heels pointy? Because yes he's a dork, but he shouldn't have holes in him."

Isabel had a feeling she knew the biggest of Sam's Alec's issues. "No, they're my all purpose running for our lives boots. And I'm girly, but I'm willing to admit it's easier to run when you're not wearing heels."

"Speaking of running for your life, or actually staying to fight, how's your training go today?"

"I need a new pair of those," she mused, "the soles on mine are getting kind of slanty. And the training went pretty well even though we're still playing it out. Professor Winchester told me to practice getting my hair up on the fly. Oh, and I tried to stake him."

"Tried to stake him? Did it work?" she asked as she got to her feet and rummaged in a dresser. "Keep one of these in your pocket or clipped on your bag. It really easy to grab, twist and clip," Isabel explained. "I used them all the time when we went riding in the jeep back home."

"Not so much, no," Dawn said ruefully, "but mostly because I didn't have a stake and he's not a vampire." She took the clip, "Wow, Isabel, these are great. But don't they come loose easily when you move a lot?"

"But if he was and you did? Would it have?"

Isabel wrinkled her nose and pondered the clip. "I never really had a problem but then again I wasn't fighting for my life."
