Max was furious that she'd left. He was so caught up in the search for the truth about their past that he couldn't see or seem to understand that it didn't matter to her.
All she wanted was to be normal. Maybe here, where there were no alien conspiracies, no suspicious sheriffs watching her, no Special Unit of the FBI, no destiny, maybe here she’d get a fresh start.
She paid the cab driver as he let her off in the parking lot. Loading her duffle bag over her shoulder and towing her suitcase, she headed towards the school.
