Room 406, evening

After work Isabel had returned to her room, made a few handwavey phone calls, then turned on Christmas carols and settled in for an evening of gift giving.

It was a nice distraction from thinking about anything else.

The Christmas tree lights were twinkling and the door was most definitely open.

"I'll have 'em tomorrow," Anders promised. "But I wouldn't mind getting mine now?"

"Of course." Isabel dug through her pile and pulled out an envelope that contained an IOU for two tickets to an Orioles game once they went on sale and a wrapped box. "Here. I was in a goofy mood. Forgive me?"

Anders didn't waste much time opening the box, and burst out laughing so hard he had to stop in order to catch his breath and wipe his eyes.

"Considering how much I needed that? You're so forgiven and then some," he assured her.

"Excellent," she laughed, reaching out to ruffle his hair. "I'm glad you like it."

"Present from my big sis?" Anders accepted the hair-ruffle with good grace -- he did carry off the mussed look so well -- and brought an arm up to sling around her shoulders. "'course I like it. It's awesome."

Isabel leaned against him and pointed towards the envelope. "There's more."

"Ooooh." There was a brief rustle of tearing paper, then Anders looked up and went to hug her again. "Should've known -- best big sis ever."

Grinning, she kissed his cheek. "How could I not. I thought about asking Wyatt? But he'll have to fend for himself for the day. This is our thing."

"One more baseball game for the road," Anders suggested, then winced. Too soon to be thinking about graduation and leaving and everything.

"It's not the last. Don't think like that," Isabel said, thwapping him gently. "You're stuck with me."

"And thank the gods for that," Anders laughed. "You've ruined me for watching baseball games alone."

"Cracker Jack are always better when shared."

"And what fun is the seventh-inning stretch if you can't sway back and forth and bump the person next to you during 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame'?" Anders added.

"Exactly," she agreed.

"See? You're not allowed to fall out of touch or something."

"Not going to happen," Isabel said immediately. "I promise."

"I'm gonna remember you said that," Anders told her. "And if you do? I'll track you down just to remind you you promised otherwise."

"I'd hope you would," she grinned. "And thwap me appropriately."

"Thwapping will be given," Anders promised. "And then lots of hugs."
