Room 406, evening

After work Isabel had returned to her room, made a few handwavey phone calls, then turned on Christmas carols and settled in for an evening of gift giving.

It was a nice distraction from thinking about anything else.

The Christmas tree lights were twinkling and the door was most definitely open.

Anders had had to go back to the dorms to pick up a couple of changes of clothing . . . and he'd had a chance to catch the podcast of last night's radio. So of course he had to make a stop up on the fourth floor before heading back to the Arms.

"No backup, big sis?!?"

So much for hoping that certain people hadn't heard the radio broadcast. "I know," she sighed. "Not my brightest move."

"You're telling me," Anders said sternly. "Doesn't this lecture usually go the other way around?"

"Usually yeah," Isabel said, looking sheepish. "It's more fun to be the lecturer."

"I'm not exactly enjoying this," Anders pointed out. "I have enough people to be worried about this week without you going out looking for trouble."

"I promised him," she explained. "That if he lost the soul, I'd try to stop him. But I couldn't do it."

Anders tilted his head thoughtfully and leaned against the doorframe. "What happened?"

Andrew stuck his head through the door. "Did you toss him around with the power of your mind?"

"More like a wave of my hand," Isabel replied. "He and the wall got up close and personal."

"I bet you were amazing!" Andrew exclaimed. "Did he cry like little crying thing?"

"I wasn't. I was stupid for doing it on my own," she admitted, shaking her head. "I could have very easily have gotten hurt and I didn't have anyone there to watch my back."

Andrew decided not to tell Isabel about his little late night patrol of the park with John and Rikku. "Who knows, he might have taken one taste of your alien blood and gone up in dusty flames."

"I doubt it. And I'm glad I didn't get a chance to find out." Isabel looked over at Andrew and raised an eyebrow, remembering how everyone had gone after Umbridge. "You didn't try to do anything did you?"

It's early Friday morning in Hong Kong, and Parker's already shopping. Because how could she not be?

Time to check in with friends on plans for the New Year.

A wave of her hand and Isabel had her phone. Ordinarily she'd be glad to hear from Parker. But with everything that was going on. She could only hope she hadn't heard any podcasts.

"Hey..."

"Hey! I found you new jewelry to go with the presents I already got you. And what Jarod got you. The boxes did arrive, right?" Parker asked, sitting down for a break in a small pagoda while she decided where to go next. "How did Finals go?"

"They have not. But I'm sure they'll turn up soon," Isabel said, glad for the distraction. "You know how crazy it gets right before Christmas."

"True enough. So? Finals? Anything else interesting going on? And are you going home for Christmas and New Year's, or will you be on the Island if I come by for a visit?"

"Finals are done and I'm headed back to Roswell at some point in the next few days," she told her. "I'm not sure exactly when. One of the benefits of traveling by angelic taxi. You can put it off till the last minute." Or until she could see what was going on with Angel. "But I'll be back in time for the New Year's party."

To tell or not to tell. Isabel wasn't sure Parker's ulcer needed to hear about Angelus. "If I tell you something will you promise not to freak out?"

Adam, present in hand, walked across the hall and knocked on the door frame.

"Hey Adam. Merry Christmas!" Isabel smiled.

"Hi Isabel," Adam returned the smile. "Merry Christmas to you too! How are you?"

"I'm doing the Santa thing," she said. "It's fun. In fact I have something here for you."

"Very nice," Adam smiled. "Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus," he agreed. "Funny you should mention that, I've actually got a little something for you, too."
