Room 406, evening

After work Isabel had returned to her room, made a few handwavey phone calls, then turned on Christmas carols and settled in for an evening of gift giving.

It was a nice distraction from thinking about anything else.

The Christmas tree lights were twinkling and the door was most definitely open.

"I didn't have to trade. It just means that the organization I bought that from made sure the people that made it got paid a fair price for it," Isabel told him. "And yes, those are for protection. You should have had them the other night."

"I had John. He's good to have around for that protection bit," Andrew said. He opened the last package. "These are great! What are they for?"

"Luck. I thought they were prettier then a rabbit's foot."

"They're fantastic. This is all really, really great! Thank you so much!" Andrew moved to give Isabel a hug.

She hugged him back happily. "I'm glad you like them. Maybe you should take the luck set with you if you go skiing. To avoid any bad spills."

"That's a great idea! Anything I can do to help." Andrew was more than a little worried about this break.

"Take a lesson. They help a lot," Isabel told him. "And don't go off the green trails no matter what anyone says."

"Well, Neil said he would show me. And I imagine he would be really patient," Andrew said. "Don't worry, it's bunny slopes all the way for this guy."

"Yeah, Neil seems like he'd be a pretty relaxed teacher," she agreed. "I think you'll have fun. Will you be back here in time for New Year's?"

"I honestly don't know," Andrew replied. "We've both been so caught up with the studying that we haven't really discussed it."

"Well if you are, I'll hopefully see you at the New Year's party they're planning," Isabel said with a grin. "It sounds like it'll be fun."

"I do like a good party!" Andrew exclaimed. "And it would be nice to share the evening with friends. Though, I have to admit, I'm really looking forward to getting my first New Year's kiss from Neil."

"Yeah, I'm looking forward to that myself," she admitted. "Except not Neal, of course."

"So let me see those stones again. Do you know what each one is?"

And they happily spent the next little while inspecting rocks.
