Room 406, afternoon

She'd needed last night, Isabel realized. After everything that had happened, she needed a night of being quiet and feeling safe.

Eventually she'd made it back to her room. After a shower, she'd called her mom, feigning surprise at the news of the destruction of the Meta-Chem, and quickly changing the subject to the cleaning supplies that were currently working busily around the room.

"I know mom," she said eventually. "Yes, we'll be out for dinner soon. I promise. Bye." Isabel hung up her phone and opened her laptop. Solitaire would be a good way to not think for the afternoon.

[Door closed, post is open! And I'm about to go AFK till about 7 EST. I'll grab pings when I get back. And I'm back!!!]

"Well you tell me. Two years ago this Monday a good friend died. We found out later it was because of alien stuff." No, Isabel was not still bitter about that. "This week last year? I left for my six months on Antar. Now this. Next year? I swear to god, screw college. I'm going to a deserted island and hiding."

"I'm sorry," Peter said. "I know it's not nearly enough, but I am."

"I'm sorry too," she said. "I'm just frustrated. I don't mean to dump on you."

"Hey, when am I not here for dumping on?" Peter asked. "Don't worry about it."

"You're a good friend," Isabel smiled.

"I try to be," Peter said, giving her a playful nudge.

"You succeed," she said, nudging back.

"So tell me about this new power?"

"I draw the future," Peter said. "Or paint it. Depends on whatever material's handy."

"Useful," Isabel replied. "Remind me to give you some crayons before finals week. Maybe you can give me a clue or two what'll be on the tests."

Peter snickered. "If only it was that easy. I have no control over what I make. It just sort of happens. And it's not always something useful. I've got one picture that's Nathan standing in the doorway of his apartment. Like I needed future-telling ability to know about that."

"Well at least this time it was useful," she said. "Between you and Sam, it sounds like you gave everyone something to hang on to. So thank you for that."

"I'm glad it came in handy," Peter said. "That's worth the weird."

"Your weird, my weird. Life's never going to be boring is it?" Isabel sighed.

Isabel thought of the number of visitors she'd had that day. "No. Never lonely. Not with friends like these."
