Even though there had been some discussion of wedding plans, Isabel had managed not to get too carried away with the planning and had instead spent the last week enjoying time with Wyatt and her family.

Unfortunately though, Wyatt did have a family of his own to get back to. Which meant it was time for him to head off to San Francisco. Isabel was trying hard not to think about how that could go wrong. After dinner with her family they took a ride out into the desert, partly to see the show but mostly because good-byes, even if they were only going to be temporary, were easier without a crowd.

"For the moment. That'll change the first time you kick something big and ugly's ass," Isabel replied. "And then they'll come looking for you."

Wyatt pressed his forehead against hers. "I'll be okay," he said. "I've got my protection shield, and you know how hard it is to take me out."

She brushed her lips against his. "I love you. I worry. I can't help it."

"I love you, too," Wyatt murmured, kissing her back. "And you know I'm going to worry about you."

"Trust me, I'll be keeping a very, very low profile," Isabel promised. "I think the worse I'll have to deal with are drunks in the casinos. Because I have a feeling that's where I'm going to wind up working."

". . . in the casino?" Wyatt said, suddenly having visions of dancing girl!Isabel in his head, which was fine for himself, but not for the whole world.

"We have to work in a field related to our degree," she explained. "So I'll probably try to get a job in banquet services or something." Which hopefully wouldn't turn into a job as a cocktail waitress.

"Just no skimpy outfits," Wyatt teased. "Not unless you're trying to make me crazy."

Isabel tried, and probably failed to look innocent as a certain nurses outfit sprang to mind. "Would I do something like that?"

"You'll end up decking some high roller who thinks he can get away with grabbing you," Wyatt sighed. "And then I'll have to bail you out of jail."

He did have a point. "You're the best boyfriend ever. But hopefully I won't have to make that call."

"You should be my Charge," Wyatt said, not pouting at all. "Then I could tell if you were in trouble and needed me, even far away."

"I don't know that decking someone with grabby hands actually counts as real trouble," Isabel replied. "But I know what you really mean. I wish the same. And that it went both ways."

"Not fair that Chris got a Charge before me," Wyatt grumbled. "I'm the oldest, should've been me."

"I bet you'll get one soon enough. Especially now that you're going home." And once again that thought had her tightening her arms around him. "I'll be happy to provide references given all the times you've save me."

"And you've saved my ass just as many times," Wyatt said, playing with her hair.

"And only had to kick it occasionally," Isabel grinned, reaching down to give it an affectionate pat.

"I'm going to get into so much trouble without you watching my back," Wyatt smirked.

"That's what I'm afraid of," she sighed. "The California college girls are even more dangerous then the demons."

"They're all airheads," Wyatt said. "I like my women to be bad ass." And it was his turn to do a little groping of the bad ass in question.

Isabel forgot about talking with words for a while. Instead she tried to show Wyatt how she felt by tangling her hands in his hair and kissing him deeply.

Wyatt was more than content to return the kiss. He didn't want to let go of her, not ever.

And they were back to either perpetually healing sunburns or needing lots and lots of sunscreen.

Eventually, reluctantly, Isabel finally pulled away a tiny bit. "This is not helping."

"I don't want to go," Wyatt said, feeling very clingy all of a sudden. "Maybe I can see if I can transfer to your school or something."

"You can't," she said sadly. "You've got this whole destiny thing to figure out. And you need to be home to do it. Not here, without a demon or evil creature in sight." At least not any non-human ones.

"It'll work out. It has to. We have Miss Victoria to look forward to."
