Room 406, afternoon

There's a blanket and some pillows on the extra bed, and she's moved some of her books and picture frames over to the extra so it doesn't look quite so empty. Isabel is sitting on the floor, puzzle mat spread out in front of her. She's made progress and the puzzle is almost all done. All that's left to do is fill in the blue background.

Smiling at her blush, Jack dropped to sit on the floor, leaning back against the bed. "If you're sure. And it never occurred to me that you'd say anything. All right, then. I'm a fifty-first century guy, bred and born. That's what they mean when they say native chronological whatsit. It's when I come from." He shrugged. "The Time Agency is just another supposedly secret government organisation, but they deal with chronological infractions - people messing around with time - help keep everything ticking along the way it's supposed to. It's just, it's what I've always wanted to do." Leaning forward, he tapped her knee. "That's why the alien-human hybrid thing didn't faze me. In my time, most of the human race has at least a bit of alien in them."

"Fifty-first century?" Isabel boggled as she did the mental math. "Three thousand years from now? Wow. I guess this has been weird for you then. Even with all the oddness that is Fandom, it has to be sort of backwards."

Isabel moved so that she was sitting next to Jack, "Maybe this slot at the Academy is a way of making things up to you then. If you can't have the past, at least you have a future to look forward to."

Jack shrugged. "People are people, doesn't really matter where or when. I tend to be pretty flexible."

He broke into a huge grin. "See, that's what I've been thinking. Torchwood being involved is completely bizarre, but they're kind of the same as the Time Agency, they just deal with the weird and freaky - they'd love this place - and I have no idea what I could possibly have had to do with them, but..." He trailed off, looking at her uncertainly. "But there had to be a good reason for me to have agreed to this," he waved at his head, "and this seems to qualify as a good reason. Doesn't it?"

"Flexible? Jack you're practically elastic," Isabel laughed as she poked him with her elbow. "But you're right, there had to be a good reason for it. And if this is what you wanted? Then maybe it's worth it."

Jack stared at her for brief seconds, then his face lit up in a gleeful smile. Reaching out, he took her face between his hands and pressed a quick, smacking kiss to her lips. "You are a marvel, Isabel. A beautful, incredibly wise, marvel." Bouncing to his feet, he grinned down at her. "It's all in knowing there was a reason, something that was worth it."

Amused at the kiss and grinning because it seemed impossible not to when Jack was around, Isabel looked up at him. "And obviously being a Time Agent is worth it?"

"It's the only thing I've ever wanted to be. So yeah, it was worth it." He bounced on the spot. "I am going to go and explore, seeing as I'm definitely going to be here for awhile. Do you want to come?"

Bounce. Bounce. Bounce.

"I would love to. But I think I'm going to a geek and stay here while the mun goes to bed. I'm going to get this done if it kills me." She glared at the puzzle before looking back up and smiling. "But have fun!"

"Yup. Enjoy," he said as he bounced out of her room. Stopping just outside, he turned back and said. "Isabel? You really are a marvel, you know?"

"If you keep telling me that, I'm going to have to believe it." Isabel smiled and shooed Jack on his way. "Go, there are people out there that need you to flirt with them."
