Outside Meerkat Cabin for now

After trying out for a cheerleading position and then laughing with Aeryn at John and Greg's antics, and talking to Elizabeth, Isabel returned to Meerkat and took a long nap. She finally ventured out again as the sun was going down. Stopped on the steps overlooking the other cabins, she tried to figure out where to go. She wasn't looking for anyone in particular, really.

Greg wasn't looking for anyone in particular, either. Really.

Which is why his face totally didn't light up when he saw Isabel. "Hey."

"Hey yourself," Isabel said with bright smile of her own. "How have you been?"

"Bored. Spent a quiet day reading in my alcove," he said innocently. "How did your cheer tryout go?"

"Just reading? I see," she said, trying hard not to laugh. "It went okay. But I'm really not sure I'm going to get a spot on the team. The competition was pretty fierce."

"I'm sure you knocked them dead," he assured her. "The competition might have been kind of awesome and very good at the splits, but you were totally better. I'm sure of it."

"The competition did jazz hands. I can't compete with that," she said sadly. "I'm going to be forced to cheer you on from the bleachers. And the cheering just won't be the same without the tiny skirt."

"You could always just wear a tiny skirt for fun," Greg suggested with a smirk.

"It's okay, if a guy with a chainsaw comes out, I'll distract him and we can make a quick getaway," Greg promised. "Besides, I wanted to talk to you about something, anyway."

"We'll distract him," she countered. "I'd rather not be the defenseless blonde. She's usually one of the first victims." Isabel bumped against Greg's shoulder as she started to walk. "About what?"

"It's a nice day today," he stalled. "And I would never think of you as a defenseless blonde, because I remember having blue hair way too well."

"That's my Stickbug defense. I still need to work on the chainsaw defense though." Isabel smiled as they entered the trees. "This is so different then Roswell."

"And San Gabriel," he agreed, nodding. "More humid. More lush. Prettier."

"Exactly, Roswell is so dry and just...brown," she agreed. "Have you lived in San Gabriel all your life?"

Greg, meanwhile, wasn't all that focused on the conversation, what with having other things on his mind and all.

He glanced over at her, nodding, and blushed inexplicably. He opened his mouth as though to say something, and stopped, studying the ground nervously.

"What?" Isabel asked, suddenly feeling shy. The ground really was fascinating after all.

"I...um, was wondering," Greg said, scuffing a foot and actually looking up, bright red, "you know, if you don't have anything else going on or whatever, if...um, maybe you'd want to go out sometime? On a date kind of thing? Maybe? And it's totally okay to say no if that's what the answer is. I can take rejection."

Isabel looked up and smiled. "I'd love to," she said simply. Then she ducked her head and resumed her study of the ground to hide her own red face.

Greg did not say 'Squee!'

But he came awfully close.

"Great," he said, smiling widely. "Um...Wednesday evening, maybe? And leave the details to me."

Isabel also did not say 'Squee!' But she did use the icon.

"Wednesday would be great," she agreed. "I like surprises, so the details are all yours. But can I get a hint so I can dress appropriately?"

"Ooh, seals," Greg said thoughtfully. "I didn't know they were indigenous, but hey, Fandom's kind of weird so who am I to question the presence of seals? I'll ask Parker about them."

If he intertwined his fingers with hers, it might have been because he wanted to ensure that she didn't let go and get separated.

Or possibly he just wanted to ensure she didn't let go. Because he was also damn happy.

"Honestly? A wooly mammoth could come walking down that path and I don't think it would phase me that much. It's Fandom" she laughed. "The first month or so I was here I kept a list called 'only in Fandom'. I gave up after a while, it got to be too long."

Isabel held on and made no move to let go.

"Yeah, I've been here less than a month and I've already encountered a bunch of stuff I was pretty firmly convinced didn't exist," he told her, beaming. "But yeah, tiny dwarves could scurry across our feet wearing fairies as hats and I probably wouldn't be that surprised."

Isabel laughed. "I'm suddenly picturing tacky little garden gnomes marching along singing 'Hi-Ho-Hi-Ho, It's off to work I go."

"With fairy hats," he added. "And possibly little wooden shoes, because they'd naturally be traveling gnomes visiting from Holland." Greg nodded. "Fandom attracts tiny dwarfy tourists, of course."

"Why do you think they come here?" Isabel asked with a grin. "Do you think there are important dwarf monuments? Or do you think Fandom has the gnome equivalent to Six Flags?"
