Room 406, evening

After a the hectic pace of the last few weeks, Isabel was grateful for some downtime, even if it meant she had too much time to think about fun with the kids and saying goodbye.

But things were slowly returning to normal. She'd covered library, had breakfast with Cedric, spent time with friends, and fulfilled StuCo responsibilities. Looking at the two packages sitting on her desk, Isabel realized that some things had slipped through the cracks. She made two phone calls then settled down to do some studying.

"We all were distracted on prom," Isabel laughed. "It's completely understandable. Did you have fun?"

"I did," she says. "You obviously put a lot of effort into it."

Aeryn couldn't tell you who all plans it. She knows Isabel.

"It was fun. Plus a good distraction from everything else," she explained. "But if I ever have to do it again? I'm just going to program the danger shop."

Isabel got to her feet and went to her desk, returning with a small package. "Here, this is for you."

"You really didn't have to," she says, but opens the package. "That's beautiful," she says, because ooh. "Thank you."

"I think it'll make a nice contrast against your shirt," Isabel grinned. "And I didn't have to. But I wanted to. I'm just sorry I didn't get it to you earlier in the week. My hands were a bit full."

"I can't imagine why," Aeryn says dryly, though she might be focusing on the necklace a bit more. "Were you that busy?"

"Not as busy as some people," she said. "I only had two."

"I had one." She pauses. "And John had another, but I tried to avoid her whenever possible."

"You and John?" Isabel asked. "And John and who?" She couldn't imagine who John could have possibly have had a kid with besides Aeryn.

"Rita Skeeter," she says, just watching for the reaction.

Isabel stared. Then laughed like a loon.

"That was my reaction. I don't think John appreciated it," Aeryn smiles.

"That's just too funny," she said, still laughing a bit. "Of course now I'm scaring myself imagining a reality were John and that woman actually had a kid together. Because that's just wrong on so many levels."

Aeryn visibly shudders. "I hated that child. Just... no. No."

"She had her mother's sparkling personality?" Isabel teased. "I wound up with a seven year old chatterbox and a four year old with a hair gel fetish. I think you can guess who his dad was."

Her eyes widen. "That's genetic?"

"Possibly? Either that or he just imprinted on a bottle of hair gel as a newborn," she shrugged. "But he was adorable. And Alexandria, god, I don't think she ever was quiet."

"Was that a bad thing?" she asks.

"Not bad bad," Isabel laughed. "I just feel for her mom. I don't think she gets a minutes peace until after bedtime. But she was a good kid. Sweet, happy, and thrilled to finally meet her father."

Aeryn blinks a little. "That had to be interesting," she says slowly.

She shrugged. "Jack was great about it. Of course I think it helped that she was one of five of his. So he pretty much laughed and went with it. But he was good with her," Isabel said, a touch sadly. "He told her that her mom, Aunt Parker and Uncle Cedric was right. That he did love her, very much. I think she needed to hear that."

"She probably did," says Aeryn, who can kind of speak from experience there. "That was very good of him."

"He'd argue with me. But I think he's a good guy," Isabel smiled. "He was good to her. Of course now I wonder what she's going to tell her version of me. And if she'll believe it." Although hopefully the bracelet would help.

"It'll be a story for her," Aeryn says, thinking about this. "Hopefully it'll work out for her."

"She'll be okay. She has good friends if you believe the way Alexandria talked about Parker and Cedric, so I'm sure that'll help," she said. "It'll be just like old times in Fandom."
