Room 406, after archery into the evening

After last night's festivities, Isabel could use a little quiet. So tonight she's sitting in her room catching up on email, running through her lists of things to do for Fourth of July and possibly reading some Wendy the Werewolf Hunter fanfic. Not that she'd ever admit that.

The door is open.

"Actually, it's kind of a cheat, seeing as I'll give you anything you want anyway." He walked over and joined her on the bed, stretching out on his stomach. "But it was a very good picnic. What are you up to?" he asked, waving at the list.

"Awww, thanks," Isabel smiled, ruffling his hair. "I'm set at the moment. But if you were to show up with ice cream one night? I wouldn't complain. This," she said tapping the pad, "Is Fourth of July. Or at least my plans for Fourth of July. I'm organizing a party."

"There will be ice cream," he promised, grinning up at her. "A party? Can I help? Do you need someone to go shirtless?"

"Yay ice cream," she grinned. "It's going to be a Fourth of July beach party. So there'll be plenty of shirtlessness. You're going to love it." As she spoke, Isabel added Jack's name to the labor list.

"Just tell me what flavour, and it'll be yours." He stretched and ended up with his head resting on her knee, looking up at her. "You just put my name down on that list of yours, didn't you? Is it a list of the people who'll be shirtless? Can I see it?"

"Chocolate is good, or," Isabel chuckled, "there's a Ben & Jerry's flavor called Carmel Sutra. That's always good." She held the pad out of his reach. "Don't touch the list. If I loose this, it's all over. I did right your name down, but only as possible labor if I need it. Right now I have you and Cedric on it."

"Carmel Sutra, that sounds like exactly the sort of ice cream I should be buying," Jack laughed. "Me and Cedric, huh? You should definitely make that the shirtless list, then. But my labour's yours if you need it, and Cedric and I work well together, so you won't have to worry about any workplace conflicts." He smiled at her. "What have you got planned so far?"

"It's very yummy," Isabel promised. "It's Fourth of July on the beach. It's going to be hot. Of course you'll be shirtless." Putting the notepad aside, she grinned down at him. "I bet you work well together. The two of you should sign up for the volleyball game I'm going to organize."

"That's a great idea: shirtless, sweating, and leaping around. I'll ask him about it next time I see him." He cocked an eyebrow at her. "You bet we work well together? Izzy, what exactly are you implying?" he asked innocently.

Isabel sighed, momentarily distracted by the pretty picture Jack's words made. Jaye would be thrilled as well. "I'm not implying anything," she said just as innocently. "Is there something to be implied?"

"Maybe," he replied, eyes flashing wickedly. "Why? Do you want details?"

"I wouldn't mind," she laughed. "But if you hit the TMI point, I swear I'm smothering you with a pillow."

Grinning, he settled himself more comfortably, shifting his head to rest on her thigh. "Your knees aren't very comfy, you know that?" he asked. "And how do I know what's TMI? A bit unfair, first thing I'm going to know about it is when you smother me."

"You don't have to sprawl," Isabel pointed out. "As for the TMI mark? Consider how deeply I'll blush with what you say. Pink is okay. Red-faced and facepalming? Definitely TMI."

"Sprawling is mandatory," Jack replied asbently, reaching up to touch her chin with one finger, tipping her head sideways to look at her cheeks. "You're very pale, but okay. TMI blushometer, I can work with that. Here goes: he's gorgeous under those clothes, and he can kiss like you wouldn't believe." He paused, waiting for any sign of colour.

"Okay, I can work with that," Isabel smiled, blushing only slightly. "I figured as much about clothes, I have seen him shirtless after all. The kissing, I'll take your word for it."

"He's very," Jack paused, and censored what he'd been about to say. "Very brave. Very willing to try new things." He turned that idea over in his head for a minute, then said quietly, "He impresses me."

Isabel thought about the conversation she'd had earlier with Cedric. "He is brave." She stroked Jack's hair back gently. "You're not used to that are you? People impressing you?"

"No, I'm not." Jack closed his eyes. "He hasn't heard from his family the whole time he's been here, and there's things going on back there I know are scaring him, but you'd never know it to talk to him."

"I do actually, but only because we've talked about," Isabel said quietly. "I'm glad he's trying to find out though. I'd ask Xander to ask his Willow for him, but I'm pretty sure there's some time differences between when Willow is and when Cedric's from."

"We sent a letter yesterday, and now we're just waiting to hear back. I hope it doesn't take very long." He opened his eyes. "That might be useful. If it's a time later than Cedric's, she might be able to find out what - if anything - happened."

"I heard about the letter. Cedric actually stopped by here earlier, we talked for a bit and he told me," Isabel explained. "Let's see what answer he gets from the letter before we go messing about with the time line."

"Yeah, I know." Jack reached for her hand, folding it between both of his. "I'm glad he's talking to someone else about it. Hopefully it'll stop him from doing anything stupid, like going back to try and find out what's happening. Last thing I want him to do is go running off alone into a dangerous situation."

"No, he can't do that," she smiled. "That's Michael's job."

"I'll be sure to tell him that." Jack grinned. "I'd hate to have my wizard get in trouble for doing someone else's job, because you know Michael would show up, demanding some sort of payment for copyright violation, and the whole thing would end in tears." Laughing at himself, he kissed her hand. "Much better off if we just avoid the whole mess and keep him here."
