Room 406, morning

Isabel still felt a bit guilty about leaving Annie behind while she was in LA so she decided to spend the morning making it up to her. Mostly that meant using her powers to send a small toy mouse zooming around the room for the cat to stalk.

The door was open so she could meet some of the new or even not so new people if any happened to wander by.

Isabel boggled a bit. "School after regular school? That's dedication. There'll be club fair once school starts. So you can find out all the clubs there. Personally I'm a representative on Student Council and I'm also a library aide. But I can recommend both the Gun and Fencing clubs if that's your thing. Good friends of mine are in charge of them."

AMi shook her head. "Not really my thing. Is there a swim team? Or a chess team? I will see i suppose. As for schools..." she adjusted her glasses "Well in Japan if one wants to get into a top university, one goes to cram school. The exams are very very tough, and i must get in."

"No chess or swim team, although there is a pool in the basement. But if you want to organize one you could try to run it past the administration, they're usually pretty good about things like that." Isabel wrinkled her nose, with the possibility of returning to Antar looming over her head, she's never really thought about college. "I can't imagine dealing with that kind of pressure. I think this is going to be a change for you."

AMi nodded. "You may be right. I hope i can keep up with my studies here. How about yourself, are you going to go to college here, or return to..." AMi made a vague upward motion.

"I think you will. There's certainly enough time." Isabel shrugged, "I don't know. Our plans are sort of up in the air. I'm sure you can imagine how the crash and then the goverment getting involved messed things up for us."

"Oh i bet. There are all those stories of the horrid things the government scientists want to do to people form other planets." She looked up slightly horrified. "They do not know about this place do they?"

"The stories are true," she replied quietly. "But they don't, at least so far. I wouldn't be here if they did."

Ami looked completely horrified now. "THat is.. that is just horrid. I hope they never come here then."

Isabel felt bad for upsetting Ami. "In some very small way? I'd like to see them try to come here and take people. We're very, very protective of our own here. If I was in trouble? I could easily name half a dozen people that would move heaven and earth to get me out of it. That's another one of the things I like about being here."

That made Ami smile. "It is good to have friends, isn't it?"

"Oh it is. And I've got some of the best ones," Isabel smiled. "I'll have to introduce you to them at some point."

"That would be very nice. I am nto very good at making friends i am afraid..."

"Around here it's easy. Bring food to the common rooms. People will be your friend for life," she grinned. "Or if the common rooms are too crazy, this is a good start. Stick your head in open doors and say hi."

Ami smiled. "Stick my head into all open doors, check." She grinned. "Maybe not all open doors."

"Most people are harmless. But be careful about which closet doors you open," Isabel said, remembering last summer. "Sometimes there's gremlins, and sometimes you'll get turned into a small animal."

"A... small animal? Like a mouse?"

"Actually my boyfriend spent time as a hedgehog last summer." She pointed at a picture of her and Greg from the rafting trip. Before they got wet and Greg's spikes deflated. "It was oddly appropriate."

"Did that make hugging him prickly?" Ami said completely deadpan but dissolved into light giggles rather rapidly.

"He was wee!" Isabel laughed, holding up her hands to show how little he was. "Hugging wasn't much of an option. I did a lot of nose rubbing. Oh, and for the record, if you turn into an animal around here, when you turn back. You're naked. Just so you know."

"You are?" THis was not something that appealed to Ami very much. "In front of everyone?"

"If you're not careful yes," she nodded. "Although most of the time people change back when they wake up in the morning. So if you're ever a small animal? Make sure you go to bed someplace alone." Isabel shook her head, remembering that morning. "Poor Greg went to sleep curled up on my pillow and woke flailing for a sheet. We'd only been dating for a few weeks so he was terribly embarrassed. Fortunately I'd been warned. So I had a change of clothes for him."

Even the thought made Ami blush. "I do not think it will be a problem" she was certain that she was not going to be having any boyfriend or anything of the sort any time soon.

"You know, this school is weird."

Isabel laughed. "Ya think? But don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine."

Isabel's laugh was contagious and Ami laughed with her. "Oh, someone warned me about a locker, but they did not say which one or why ishouldbe weary of it..."

"That would be Locker 327. It has a habit of sucking people in and keeping them for a few days. Avoid it at all coasts," she warned.
